Hi,

I recently hit pvp rank 8 as of the last update. I had 50,000 honor
for the week. Before that, I was rank 7 at about 75% on the progress
bar, now I am rank 8 and about 30%. I finished with a standing of
approxmately 250 (dont remember exact, I think it was about 235 to be
honest).

Anyway, my question is, and I'm not sure if this can even be answered,
is based on the above information, does anyone have any clue how hard
it would be to get to rank 10 to 11? Is it going to get vastly more
difficult now? I would at least like to get all the blue armor
available (I think I need rank 10 for that).

I would love to have the top rank weapons though, but I dont want to
pvp 24 hours a day to get it. I now play about 2 to 3 hours a day in
battlegrounds.

Thanks for any info

There is a certain variance server to server and faction to faction.
At one point, I inspected the top ranked guy on my server a few weeks
ago. He had around 650,000 honor the week before, if that helps.
Check out your server ranks and see how many CPs everyone had in
relationship to you. Maybe contact a few of those people in game and
ask them about the grind to 10 or 11 on your server. There is also a
breakdown on wowwiki, but I cannot link it at the moment.

It takes Rank 10 to get the last two Champions pieces. Rank 11 is the
Epic Mount for 99g reward.

The formula is pretty well hammered out now. For the full explanation
search the web for WOW + Rank + "Rating Points".

Basically, you can only guess how much effort it takes on your realm to
get ranked X for the week. The actual amount of CP/Honor points is all
relative to the other players (for both factions). But beyond that it
becomes pretty well known.

Rank 7 to 8 takes being approx 300th for a couple weeks in a row.

Rank 8 to 9 takes being approx 150th for a few weeks in a row.

Rank 9 to 10 takes being approx 75th for several weeks in a row.

You can obviously cut the time down by placing alot higher. For
instance, you might go from Rank 8 to Rank 10 in three weeks if you
consistantly finish in the top 20.

Technical details:
====================================
Every player has an invisible number of "Rating Points" that determine
your Rank. These are *not* the contribution points you see on your
character profile, which are only used to calculate your weekly
standing. It's the standing that determines how many RP you get
awarded. Here are the break points:

Rank 1: 0-1999
Rank 2: 2000-4999
Rank 3: 5000-9999
Rank 4: 10000-14999
Rank 5: 15000-19999
Rank 6: 20000-24999
Rank 7: 25000-29999
Rank 8: 30000-34999
Rank 9: 35000-39999
Rank 10: 40000-44999
Rank 11: 45000-49999
Rank 12: 50000-54999
Rank 13: 55000-59999
Rank 14: 60000-65000

Every week each player loses 20% to these points to *Decay*. You never
drop more than 10%, but in order to go UP, you have to earn your decay
back and then some.

Example: At Rank 8 your first 6000 Rating Points are eaten up by decay.
If you keep earning 10,000 points, it will take about 2 weeks to go up
to Rank 9.

So.... How much RP is awarded for each standing?

The person who finishes 1st on the realm gets 13,000 RP. Everyone else
gets less. Only Blizzard knows the exact formula, but it appears from
people keeping track of their progress that it's based on some kind of
bell curve. On my realm finishing 100th (the best I ever did) got me
8800 RP that week. A guildmate who consistently finishes in the top 50
gets around 10500 and has reached the point where he's just treading
water just shy of Rank 11.

How can I check my standing on the web and others? I see how to do it
on the US servers, but when I go to the european site
(www.wow-europe.com), it just says "Choose your realm:" but there is
now combo box or anything else. It was like this last week and I
thought it was a temporary problem, but it is still like that today.

Thanks

I'm no expert at this, but you have probably hit your limit at rank 8
playing 2-3 hours per day. On my server if one wishes to move into the
upper ranks, he would have to belong to a close knit group (say 8-10 people)
in which all the members share like goals and are willing to spend
considerable time playing BG's. Also it would be immensely advantageous to
have something like Teamspeak to coordinate BG play (search for 'teamspeak'
on net). The group needs to develop play strategies. Some of these are not
so fair, if that can be said in BG's. For example, it is not unheard of for
teams to stuff the opposing side with their own players to insure the other
team loses. Also, once a player reaches the top, he has to be willing to
drop down and support the other players. For example the group could decide
Player A will driven to the top first, then Player B, etc. But beware, I
have seen it happen more than once, when a player reaches the top, they
become burnt out and don't like to play for such long hours causing
dissention in the group.

Personally I can't imagine someone getting to the top ranks on their own
without a team effort. Maybe it's been done and someone on this board knows
of such cases. They could tell you how that was accomplished.
