I don't think I can name ten but I've been playing flight sims since
F-15 Strike Eagle in 1985. I can say that the games I will go back and play
are few and far between.
10. Janes USAF- Nice graphics and multiple aircraft simulated. Has some bugs
and you have to run it on an older system. Won't work with Windows XP AFAIK.
9. Jet by SubLogic-This came out in 1984 and was the first 3D sim I played.
It had external views and stuff that now comes standard on modern flight
sims. It was the one that got me hooked. Truly spent way too much time with
this game.
8. Interceptor- The Amiga version is the one I played and it had great
graphics for the time and great gameplay. Very cool missions.
7. F-15 Strike Eagle- Was a 2D game and it was fun. The first sim I ever
played on my Commodore 64.
6. Gunship- The first heli sim I liked. It had very good playability and
good missions.
5. Gunship 2000- You had the choice of different helicopters and could lead
a team into battle.
4. Falcon- The 1987 Amiga version was great. Great visuals. One of the most
complete sims of it's time. This game ushered in the really detailed flight
sim.
3. F19-Stealth Fighter-This game had you thinking most of the time rather
than shooting. You had to avoid radar and do a lot of recon missions.
2. Birds of Prey-This is an old Amiga game that simulated lots of different
aircraft and weapons well. This game is worth a look if you can get it to
run with an Amiga emulator.
1. Janes Fighters Anthology-I know it's old and it doesn't have the best
flight model but the game has a very wide variety of aircraft. You can even
fly mondern bombers and that's something that isn't simulated much at all.
This is a great game to play over the Internet if you can find someone to
play with.
There are a lot of other games I played and are great but these are the
first games that really stood out to me. Some other great games are
Eurofighter 2000, Joint Strike Figher, Janes Longbow 1&2, Janes-F-15 and
Falcon 4.0.

I sincerely think that there has not been a contestant since F3.
Balance between playability, "realism", dynamic campaigning, strategic
thinking plus sheer fun factor were all in perfect balance....
Cheers!

Gawd, thats an old and creaky list. I think if you go back and play most of
them now you'll quickly wonder why they are there.

I am a mere handmaiden at the altar of Digital Integration. Adamski
(retired to New Zealand to fly a sheep simulator) is a High Priest.
There are others but, like the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse, if you ever
see them all together in a thread it's a *really* bad sign. Next thing
you know it's raining frogs & locusts. Just after that, Black Shark's
released.

Yea I was just thinking what games had the most impact and I picked
the first ones I could think of. I'm not really into the WW 2 flight sims
that seem to dominate the market these days. Sure they look good and have a
lot of bells and whisles but I'm tired of WW2. In wonder if in 50 or 60
years, kids will be saying they're tired of Afghanistan and Iraq war sims.
I never got into Tornado. I guess I didn't have enough money for
that game.

Sure it has some arcade elements but it's still fun to play and
simulates a lot of aircraft.

I've played Su-27 it's OK, nothing really special there to me. Nice
graphics and flight model though. I got it bargain basement and I did
mention Longbow, it just wasn't my top 10.
What I don't get these days is why people are so facinated with these
prop-driven WW2 sims like iL-2 Sturmovik. I've tried them and most are
boring as hell. Same damned historic missions over and over again. I'm
thankful for Falcon 4.0 and it's latest incarnation. I've also played Lock
On and it's ok, nothing really special.
I left out a great game in Megafortress. I wish there were more sims of
the heavy bombers not just fighters. There is an old saying, "Fighter pilots
make puke, bomber pilots make history."

Each to his one I guess but I bet you haven't tried IL-2 on a good MP
server with a good bunch of guys. IMHO hardly boring and very exiting
situations emerges when fighting along and against other humans in
prop planes and when teamwork counts more than kills, actually much
more fun than BVR combat in F4/LOMAC!

I've played it online and it's OK. I make it a point to play the games
online and online play can be a lot of fun unless you're up against a guy
who is so good nobody can beat him.

I'm not really talking about "air-quake furballs" here it seems you
missing my main point? With proper teamwork it's impossible/very hard
for one single pilot to rule any game! There will always be someone
better than you but that only means you have to practice more
