Is anybody here using Tome of Magic classes? How do they work in actual
play?

I'm especially interested if anyone did something to incorporate them
into the setting rather than just allowing the players to pick one for
their PC.

What classes are in Tome of Magic?

The binder, who binds "vestiges" to himself that give him various sets
powers. A sort of medieval demonologist: let a thing from beyond posess
you and you get nifty powers.

The truenamer, who uses skill-based name magic. The most interesting of
the three, IMO, but probably most poorly executed, since the DCs are
calculated in wonky ways.

The shadowcaster, which is most like a standard spellcaster, and uses
shadow-themed effects.

I can't help you much, because I only played a binder in one session (it was a
one-shot game), but I found them very interesting.

Basically, I played the character a bit like a warlock - I had bound Focalor.
The Aura of Sadness applies to allies as well as enemies, so it meant I kept my
character on the move, or at least well away from the other PCs. I used the
Focalor's Breath ability as a combat-opening attack, trying to blind the most
dangerous target, and thereafter made best use of the Lightning Strike ability
as my main attack.

Obviously, this would change if I had bound another vestige, like Paimon or
Savnok. I didn't get much of a chance to use non-combat abilities, so I stayed
bound to Focalor all game - though the Water Breathing power did come in very
handy when we set up an ambush for some pirates on a beach.
