Would you really want to? I tried TR when TRA came out and then
remembered it was keyboard only.

I played first TR's (yes, keyboard only) when they first appeared
and would try to do the same under XP Pro, but they don't work.
What is TRA? Is it a mouse version?
Can you give me some up-to-date info?

Go there ... there are XP patches and install instructions for all
the TRs.

I personally have not tried to reinstall, run the old TRs with these
patches since installing XPProSP2.

I understand they do work however if you install it correctly ...
just can't confirm it personally.

Good luck

TR Installer:
I have used the TR Advanced Installer with VDMSound and Glidos, and I
was pretty impressed with them. It's relatively easy to set up, when
everything works right. I've never messed around with the new textures,
though.

Glidos cost me $10 but may be worth it, as Glidos works very well. (I
stopped using it because each time you reinstall Windows requires that
you use yet another of your limited number of Glidos unlock keys.)
vgVoodoo is a free alternative to Glidos (included with the Installer),
but I personally didn't have much luck with it on my computers.

DOSBox:
I prefer to play TR1 inside of DOSBox on XP Home. I'm not saying it's
the best option yet, but it works well for me.

I settled on DOSBox because it is sorta simple to set up, it's free, it
doesn't require any additional software or rationing of installation
keys, and it gives you a platform for running other DOS games/apps as
well. (I also wanted a solution that was as Linux-friendly as possible.)

The only problem that I have that really annoys me with my DOSBox/TR1
setup is that the "falling rock" sound effect in the later levels
becomes distorted. Scares the bejeebees outta me sometimes when I'm
sneaking around and watching for something to jump out at me. Also,
wild camera movements and some of the larger areas make my video become
slightly jerky.

VMware:
I've also tried TR1 inside VMware. It ran. Next paragraph... SurprisedP

Hope this helps. Good luck.

My system poop: Athlon XP 2600+, ATI Radeon 9200, Windows XP Home. I
got acceptable performance using DOSBox 0.70 and later, in both Windows
and Linux. DOSBox versions earlier than 0.70 haven't worked for me
consistently.

Another option for TR1 is Paul Gardiner's Glidos software. It goes some way
to making TR1 look the way you probably remember it, particularly if you
also load the optional texture packs.

Paul Gardiner will generally provide more unlock keys if you contact him and
explain. I guess it's mainly to stop blatant ripping off of the software.

Couldn't get it to run. Do we have to have TR4 installed to play it?
