Hi,

I've had it with getting blown away by opposing players in just three shots,
when I have emptied entire clips into them. I rarely get more than one or
two kills a game, unless I get into a warthog and run people over.

Can someone please give some advice on how to efficiently kill a player?

Thanks.

It helps to recognize which weapons are better in certain situations. For
example, the Battle Rifle (BR) is a superior mid-range weapon to the
sub-machine gun. The SMG is only (barely) useful for closer in fighting or
when duel wielding with either of the plasma weapons (pistol or rifle).

The other think that, in my view, helps the most is simply becoming familiar
with the maps, i.e., knowing where the weapons are, knowing that if you're
on the opposite side of the map from the rocket launcher, that you're not
going to get over there before someone else. Know which paths around the map
leave you more exposed to BR or sniper fire, etc.

If you're fighting up close, don't forget about the melee button. Also know
that there are three types of melee, each one does different damage. If you
melee while standing still, you do the least amount of damage. Running does
more and jumping from above down onto someone does the most. If I'm up close
in a fight while only holding an SMG, I load about half a clip into them and
then melee. That usually finishes them off.

You can find lots of other tips at several sites, the best probably being
halo.bunige.org.

Three head shots will kill a player easily.

You need to aim at the head only. Pistol fire individual shots (not holding
the button down) a little bit slower than it's maximum fire rate. If they
are moving sideways relative to you, you may need to fire in front of their
movements to connect, so you must listen to the damage confirmation to
figure out when you're leading far enough. Any time they jump you now know
their movement pattern for the next 2 seconds and so should be able to get 2
clean shots in that both connect, 3 if you're lucky/good. Make sure you'r
always, always always moving in a random pattern, nothing is easier than
getting headshots on a stationary target.

AR is useless for all but a few close-up scenarios. Change it for the SG as
soon as possible which is much more effective in those same scenarios.

Use frag nades to assist your pistol battles. Lay them down where he's
headed, they will either compliment your pistol attack and add damage, or,
if he sees them and goes the other direction, you know where he's running so
you should get a couple of good pistol shots in. You can even use them some
times solely to direct him, knowing he will see them and go the other way,
to keep him where there is less cover or where a teammate can assist you.

If you try to run *me* over in a warthog, I better be out of frag nades or
very badly distracted. Flipping hogs is *easy* and you can pistol the guy
to death before he hits the ground afterwards.

I'm assuming a normal pistol here, if it's a fast-repeat magnum pistol, fire
as fast as you can at the maximum fire rate, practice reaching but not
exceeding that rate. All other advice is the same.

Thanks for the tips so far guys! Keep 'em coming!

I actually went up a level and killed some people - including 2 people with
a light sword! (without dying myself!)

To practice, I open a split screen game, plug in two controllers, and see
what does the most damage - obviously no comparision to actual game play,
but it helped! I tried using a magnum for head shots, and didn't get much
damage from it at all compared to other guns- not even point blank. I'm
thinking there is some difference between the xbox and pc halo 2.

Best advice so far was the Melee button - and it's obviously what everyone
else has been using to finish me off nice and quick.

My Gamertag is Phippsie if anyone wants to offer any more advice, just send
me a friend request.

Thanks - looking forward to anymore tips you can dish out at me.
