The time trials are fun -- except in the levels with the boss-fights.
The clock keeps running during the boss-fights, which is rather ridiculous.
In The Valley, for example, they give you about 15 minutes to get through
the level. I can eat up 15 minutes just fighting the Rex! And in the
Centaurs level -- well, I can't even beat them without using the "wait in
the cave" trick.

I don't see why they couldn't have simply frozen the clock during the
boss-fights. Then the time-trials might have at least been possible.
(Well, the nearly show-stopping stunts during the ascent of the Great
Pyramid might make that time trial, ridiculous, too.)

The time trials are fun in some of the levels, but clearly impractical in
others. Looks like only the "cheats" depend on them. Fortunately, all of
the other Rewards are based on other things.

Has anyone in here actually completed all or most of the time trials?

Not having the game install anymore, I was never able to play the time
trials. I guess I just never got all the artifact, etc.

Wow. That pretty much makes you a Super-Raider.

And I didn't mean to imply that you'd need cheats to do so. I was just
pointing out that most of the cheats seem to become available as rewards for
completing the time trials, and I'm glad it's them and not the outfits or
something, because I'm probably never going to complete all of the time
trials.

....And you have to be able to defeat those bosses a lot more easily than I
seem to be able to do.

i did! without a cheat or anything else. i used the cheats AFTER i
finished the game and time trials. you just have to be willing to take
a few health hits on some of those levels. it doesn't matter if you
finish darn near dead as long as you finish.

not really. well..........OK! i'll be super raider....heh heh

actually it's pretty easy if you have the moves down. what bugged me
most was that the clock kept ticking when the camera was panning the
room. THAT really pi**ed me off! especially in that one......? i
can't remember exactly but there were 4 pillars in each room you had to
raise? you know. and that stupid clock just kept ticking away the
seconds........

the only one i thought was difficult was the centaurs. that one had me
really p.o.'d for a long time. the rope swinging, jump attacks, etc,
were no different than prince of persia, which i've played probably WAY
too much. but again.....once you had the moves down it was just a
matter of timing.

Doing the Lost City time trials first rewards you with the golden
shotgun which is a one hit per kill weapon. Will save time on the
other levels.

On my PC, there's a system sensitive bug that makes the Great
Pyramid sequences next to impossible, however I found out that
using fraps (normally used to capture video) slows my system down
enough that the bugs go away.

Here's a link to a video I made by capturing the video output to
another computer so the game wouldn't be affected. It shows the
difference between running without and then with fraps.

Using fraps to slow my system enough to make TRA "happy", here's
a sucessful run of the Great Pyramid 3rd platform sequence:

There ya' go. Yeah. Perhaps I can use that or some other "cheat". I don't
mind using "cheats" at this point. I played the game without them. I'm not
too bothered about using them to pass the time trials.

Wow. That's a pretty horrendous bug. Looks like you found a nice way
around it.

I'm on a PS2, which, fortunately, has no such problems (because there's
nothing I could do about it).

Nice run. Huh. I see Lara can switch directions on a bar during a
hand-stand. I didn't know she could do that. I'll have to experiment.

Hi Jeff. Good to see someone from the old crew are still at it and doing
well with the new games. I bought Legend and totally lost interest in the
game early in the first level. Never finished it. I'm not going to buy
Anniversary. I wouldn't play it. For me, it's a waste of a few bucks I
could better spend otherwise. I'm out on disability now, lower spine and
nerve damage. Constant pain, and the shakes. No reflexes in the fine
range, like what's needed for quick small movements needed for this kind of
gaming. This is 'console twitch', and it's (in Legend and Anniversary)
totally competitive with todays Pro Tourney games. Nothing seriously to do
with exploration and discovery. Which is what I really enjoy in this sort
of game, and liked most about TR 1-4. I liked the Lara model in AoD and
Hall of Seasons. I'm not even able to finish TR1 now. I've yet to get to
play Chronicles much as it just won't install on my newer rigs at all.
Weird that. But I'll work on it. Maybe put together an old early P4 rig
with 98SE. Thats the last time I had all the TR's installed and running on
one box. Oh, and a GF4-Ti4600 with an SBLive.

All good things come to an end. And eventually, all old Tombies fade into
the sunset.

McG.

On a PC, there are trainers for no damage, 1 shot 1 kill which works
on everything but two boss battles (use savegames to get around these),
and fly mode (press F11 to put Lara in "hover mode", use "1" for up,
"2" for down, and normal controls for horizontal movement) which lets
a player bypass the timed or difficult sequences.

I have savegames for Legends and Anniversary here:

Interesting. Does that let you fly to "behind the scenes" areas -- places
you can't normally get to (except via the "corner jump bug" in the early
TRs)? I wish the new TR games had a "bug" of that kind that the PS2 people
could use. (Well, there are a couple of places in Legend you can get to
that you weren't supposed to. Haven't found any in Anniversary, yet.)

Yes.

Yes, plus Lara can "fly through walls, floors, ceilings, but will return
to some "legal" spot when "fly mode" is turned off.

This website has links to the +9 trainer and the fly mode trainer:
