The rules of "Best and Worst" are easy.... just name a vendor
and think of something they did the "best" (compared to the
rest of the video game industry) and something they did the
"worst" (again, compared to the rest of the video game industry).
Electrohome
===========
Made the best raster monitors (G07, of course) and made the
worst vector monitors (G08).
Atari
=====
Made the best power supplies (AR/ARII/ARIII) and made the
worst cabinets to resist water.
Come on, everyone play!

Namco
=====
Best: System 1 hardware, the pinnacle of 8 bit game engineering. 4 x 6809 CPU's,
24bit color, multi-layer scrolling playfields, huge graphics memory, more
sprites than make sense. No one made anything else close.
Worst: System 1 hardware, WTF are you doing putting THAT MUCH EFFORT into
an 8bit system where one 68000 could do everything and more.

Wells Gardner
==========
Best: wells k7000 raster chassis for its simple and easy to work with
design.
Worst: wells first tri sync digital d9200 for its early high failure
rate and common convergence issues.
Taito:
Best: Made some of the best games out there!
Worst: Made some of the worst games out there!

Atari
=========
Made the best manauls. In fact, they produced the all-time best technical
manuals for any field I can think of. A first-class job. Excellent
schematics, too!
Atari created the best original-concept games, including _Missile Command_,
_Centipede_, _Star Wars_, and many others.
Sega
========
Made some manuals that were okay in the early days, but as games got more
complicated they abandoned this. _Thunder Blade_ came on a gigantic
motherboard and if anything went wrong with it, you had no choice but to
send it back to Sega. Not much help.
Bally/Midway
==========
Their manuals were quite good. But they hit some potholes with the hardware
for _Tron_ and _Spy Hunter_. They also came out with far too many games
that simply weren't any fun to play. >> Stay informed about: Time to play - "Best and Worst" |

You need more Gottliebs. They puff when you breathe next to them.

Stern:
Best: Berzerk cool idea for a game and one of the first that
taunted you. Frenzy was pretty good also.
Worst: Stupid board design, what were they thinking putting the
battery on top of the board set so it could leak acid all over the
boardset and destroy them!
Midway:
Best: Timber, Tapper, and several other original ideas for games.
Also the fact you can use the same wiring harness from several
different games (Tapper,Tron,Timber,Kickman) on one of the other games
with just a few wires needing to be rearranged.
Worst: Kickman....What were they thinking? Omega Race board design
--> acid damage! Any game with "Mortal" in the title!
Williams:
Best: Great concepts and games every game except Make Trax!
Worst: Make Trax.
