Check up on the recent articles and look out for more stuff coming out
in the next week.
As for the abilities you mention:
Flanking is obviously an offensive advantage. Creatures with only 1
toughness will die immediately when they block a creature with
flanking. It makes it difficult to gang up on a creature with
flanking, too, as the same penalty applies for each blocker.
Split Second is an advantage against control or recovery strategies.
It stops the opponent from responding with spells or abilities that
could interfere with what you're trying to achieve. Often times you
find that your spells can only force tempo rather than taking their
full effect; split second makes sure that the spell isn't
circumvented with spells or activated abilities.
I'm sure more seasoned strategists will have more to say on the matter.
