Hey guys,

I was thinking of getting one of these for my MK2 cabinet as a
universal monitor that would take low, medium, & high resolution video
signals. Something that would work with (low-res) 80/90's JAMMA pcbs,
Atari System 2 (med-res) pcbs, to my PC (high-res) for MAME. Also,
this is listed as a 24.8" monitor that "fits most 25 inch mount
cabinets". Has anyone out there tried to install one of these in a
dedicated MK2 cabinet before? My local distributor is asking $425 for
one of these & I don't want to shell out the $$ unless I know for
certain this will work for this project.

Thanks,

Steve

I can't tell from the part number if that is the 24.8" version.
Arcadeshop and Happ both also carry it. If it is, I have a couple of
them and they have the standard Wells Gardner hole pattern in the
frame. I swapped them in place of a couple of Med Res WG in a Crusin
World game.

They have a nice picture and seem to be reliable. I did have an
issue with one (possibly self inflicted) and Happ repaired it under
warranty without any real hassle.

What you have to watch with them is if you need to get them shipped
to you. I think the shipping charges on the last one I got in was
around $150!

We've got them in several games and they have been working perfectly
for over a year. They do drop right into a 25" hole so putting one in
an MK2 cab will be a breeze. However, connecting one to your PC isnt
as fun as it may sound. They WONT scan up to 800X600 so your desktop
will look like hell. If thats not an issue then I would go for it.

Does anyone know if there is a switch on the monitor's chassis that
changes between CGA, EGA, and VGA video modes or does the monitor auto-
sense the video signal type? Has anyone tried running any Atari
System 2 games on this monitor? This appears to be a flat-faced CRT
monitor -- can anyone confirm this?

Thanks,

Steve

No switch, it autosenses and changes on the fly. I have not seen atari
system 2 games on one of these but I have seen Sega medium res games
run on it. If it iwll scan to Sega's oddball output it will scan to
Atari's "more inline with the rest of the world" medium res output.

The monitor has a curved front, it's not a flat CRT. Note that the
24.8" dimensions caused the monitor to not fit into the 25" bezel I
was using, but they included a plastic ring to go around the outstide
to fill the gap. It looks pretty good.

Monitor works great, and has synched well to all 3 modes in the
testing I've done.

Thanks for the good info everyone! If I pick one of these up, I'll
report back on how it worked out for me.
