I have an idea that is probably not original, but I wanted to post it
here to see if anyone else has tried this. My wife likes to play AOE
but the war part is not for her, instead she likes to concentrate on
building farms and the "civil" part of the civilization. I like the
war and the strategy behind it. I was wondering if we could play
together each being a different culture, but as allies. The agreement
would be that I would protect her and she would provide me with food
and wood. I thought we could set up trade posts and/or she could pay
me tribute for my services. Is this possible?

Yes but trying to cocentrate on protecting someone else's settlement while
at the same timedefending your own is very difficult.

True, for a human player. But to a large degree this is exactly what AI
allies do. One fights and the other produces, and then regularly transfers
resources to the "fighter" so he can build/upgrade an army.
