Yo, I'm new to this group, but I've been watching it for a while.
Anyway I'm thinking of starting out Warhammer 40k with a Tau Army. Any
suggestions for what to buy? Should I get individual squads or a box
set?

Please help a Servant of the Greater Good.

Well for the love of pete, don't go online through GW. Use
www.thewarstore.com or similar. 20% off all the time.

The Battleforce box is apparently a good starter, and saves you a bit of
cash.

Two of the old Battleforce boxes was a great start for Tau armies. The
new one isn't IMO not quite so good. What's the best start depends
rather a lot on what type of army you want to build: mixed,
mechanized, suit heavy.

One more thing: Don't glue any weapons to the crisis suits! The
weapons will stay in place without glue, and you may very well want to
switch the weapon configuration.

GW voice: You must glue you weapons on and buy more suits when you want
new weapons.

The new $175 mega force is a great start. Then you just pick a unit or
two that you want to add and you're done for under $300 retail.

So, how do you order off that site? Do you just call in what set you
want?

Yep.

http://thewarstore.net/warhammer40k.html

You can also email them a list of what you want but calling is easier.

No worries. Also, check out Battlewagon bits if you want to do funky
suit load outs or just need a few other plastic bits here and there.

Yep you call in with your list and credit card and then wait impatiently
for the mail to arrive.

Other than the warstore there is bartertown.com and ebay.com. and bitz
can be gotten at bwbits.com if you lose a Fire warrior backpack or like
a certain pose better.

OT: bwbits had 20 gobbos for 7.99 (from skull pass)

Doesn't the new Codex play down the importance of suits (I haven't seen
it)? If not, I'm disappointed, I'll admit.

For the Tau, lots of Fire Warriors.

Fairly-popular choice.

Several Crisis Suits, 2 Broadsides, and 2 Hammerheads.

Oh, yeah, you'll need Troops, too.

You should hunt down a couple of the old Battalion boxes with 3 Crisis
suits each, and get those as your starting block.
