Hi

I have tended to play FPS. I have no PC wargames. I am interested in playing PC games which recreate historical battles using faithful/realistic geography and weaponry. 3d would be nice. Time period - ancient to 1700. I basically want to be able to replay battles to get a feel for what happened and why the geography/troop mix was important.

Are there any games/publishers which specialise in this? I have seen advertisements for Matrix Games "Tin Soldiers" line. Are they worth looking into?

Are there any which cover loads of battles or do they all tend to focus on a limited spectrum (eg tin soldiers focusses on a dozen or so battles of specific leaders).

TIA

Brendan

The Matrix Caesar and Alexander games are pretty good, though the ruleset is
minis based. Search the NG on them.

If you can download/track down a copy of The Great Battles of Alexander,
Hannibal and Caesar, they are really worth it. There is a website where
they have done some extensive scenario design and tweaks of the engine. The
ruleset is a near direct lift of GMT's Great Battles of History series.

Of the 2 series I play the older game more - warts and all.
