Played 1-3 on DOS no probs, now have TRA, savegames dont work as before, or
indeed as they work on other game I've played, eg if I save and then reload,
I'm back somewhere earlier than when I saved, and not at the exact point of
saving.

Presumably this was thought good idea by some bufoon of an implementor, is
there a way round it, or am I doing something wrong? I'm just doing the
usual of saving before a difficult jump/enemy, that sort of thing, and its a
PITA to have to retrace numerous other steps before getting back to that
point. Is this just the way it works? I think what happens is that I get
sent back to the previous auto checkpoint before I saved, is that right?

TIA

Yep. And I agree. Major PITA!

Stella's explanation doesn't seem to make any sense. "You can save
anywhere, but the game will always load at the previous check point."

If you can figure out what's the point of saving at a particular place if
the game's not going to *load* at that particular place... : 0 !

Stella isn't quite certain about difficulty settings either, but they are
probably as you have guessed-- blastable nasties have more hit points, Lara
takes more damage, etc.

Quick link to Stella & scroll down a bit if desire more info.

A save will ALWAYS put you back at the last checkpoint, but if you
have gathered up any of the 'secret' items (not normal pick ups! just
the secrets) then they will be reflected in your save regardless of
where you make it.

So if you if you hear the familiar chimes of a Secret, then hit save
anyway. If you die you may go back further than you hoped for, but at
least you won't have to go for the secret again.

I'm afraid "What you see is what you get".The saves are set at certain
stages of the game ,and there is no way around it as yet.But apart from this
balls up, it is a good game, so hang in there
