All right. That's it. MY rage bar has been maxed out and I'm seeing
everything in a blur.

I cannot seem to get the "rage" thing to work (T Rex or Centaurs). Yet some
of you have indicated that it's simple once you get it down. I'm beginning
to think it's a platform-specific thing.

Something's wrong here. I'm a PS2/TR veteran. I'm used to these games.
But I canNOT get it to work, after several hours or trying. When I shoot a
Centaur enough to trigger rage, he charges, I see the Left-Joystick and
Circle key symbols appear on the screen, I flick the joystick left or right
and tap the Circle (roll) button, and Lara dodges out of the way (usually
getting trampled anyway). Either way (trampled or not), by the time she
recovers, the "rage" is over and it's time to just start shooting again. I
have, rarely, seen the Centaur freeze with his back to Lara (and shield ring
accessible) for a fraction of a second -- way to short a time to do anything
about it.

So, can any of you PS2-players verify that you CAN do it, and that it's
"easy"? If so, could you please describe, in great detail, exactly how you
do it? (Let's use the Tihocan Centaurs as the example.)

Any help appreciated. Croft is STUCK. (Well, she's started exploring the
Mansion now. I've always loved her home.)

Thanks.

I dunno if this will help but played around with the t-rex and finally
figured out the rage attack on pc!!!

Basically I shoot the t-rex until it goes into rage mode all the while
keeping some distance with backflips then when screen goes blurry i
hold my ground and just target the t-rex but not shooting , then when
the t-rex charges and the arrow keys icon shows onscreen i hit crouch
+left or right together and lara will dodge and a target will appear
on the t-rex, when that target turns red and you hear a sound then hit
fire. The idea is to lure the t-rex to charge into the the spike
things as well and it will take extra damage.

I finished it off very quickly this way and the game is more fun now
I've mastered this move. Smile

am i the only one who finds the blurry screen a BIG distraction? i have
all that turned off because it always made me mess up. playing on pc,
of course.

can't help you with your console issue, i don't use one. but maybe your
timing is just off, or you're using the buttons in the wrong order? i'm
trying to think if i hold the button down while engaging the animation,
but i can't remember.

Thanks to all of you for the advice. I've had a talk with Croft, and I
think I've convinced her to try it yet again. It wasn't easy. I've
suggested that MAYBE it's because she stops targeting once "rage" is
activated and she's getting ready to dodge. Or maybe if I press the buttons
in the opposite order. Something like that.

We'll see.

If you don't hear from me again, it may mean that she's killed ME instead of
the Centaurs.

Thanks.

Ok this is how it works with T Rex (haven't got as far as the centaurs).

Get behind him and keep backing up, firing at him as you go until the
rage bar in the top right of the screen goes red, you will see a kind of
balloon appear above his head when he's ready to charge.

The trick is to stop going backwards when there is enough space between
Lara and the beast to give her time to jump to one side before he
reaches her. Keep firing and just before he charges he will roar, as
soon as you hear this get ready to jump. Stop firing but keep Lara's
pistols drawn and locked on. When he charges towards Lara the screen
will blur, immediately move the joystick left or right and hit jump.
Lara will jump sideways in slow motion and you will see two white cross
hairs, as soon as they merge they will turn red and you must fire one shot.

The shot stops him in his tracks and causes serious damage, use this
time to get behind him and then start firing, again running backwards.

You will notice around the clearing where you do battle with T Rex there
are drum like structures with spikes in them, if you position Lara in
front of these as he charges towards her, when her rage attack shot hits
him he will stumble into these spikes and cause more damage.

It ain't easy and requires split second timing but if you get it right
he'll be history after about three rage attacks and you'll be jumping
around the room.

I play on PS3/2 (same controls on either system). The difficulty has
nothing to do with console playing.

I think from what you say you are taking your finger of the L1 button
(targetting). You should have the game set to manual aim I think. What I
was doing was slightly releasing the targetting trigger and of course it
won't work even if you retarget immediately.

The other thing to do is press circle and the directional stick at the same
time. If you don't she just crouches which is really annoying.

With other bosses you might find forward direction or backward direction a
better choice but for TRex a left or right flip is better. Right for me as
it seems more natural.

Oh and the grass is yellower in front of the spiked drums so back up onto
those.

Thanks. This sounds helpful/hopeful. I'll let you know.

(Actually, I'm past Rex. Lara just plane shot him to death from a place
where he couldn't get her. I'll be trying the Centaurs.)

I didn't think there was a place where Rex couldn't get you. Where is that?

BTW, I got so fed up with Rex that I downloaded the "tra2_trn.exe" trainer,
set it to one-shot-kill, and did away with Rex ... just to keep the game
going.

That spot is between the spike things. When you are facing them, go
the the one on the right and stand as close as you can to the left hand
side of it.
It is boring, but can be done.

i played it and offed the t-rex without using the spikes, but just
regular walls instead.

i don't know if not using the spikes caused the bugs in the battle with
the t-rex but some wierd stuff happened that i caught with fraps. kinda
funny, actually.

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=2039339227

anything odd happen if you just stand and shoot him?

What was the Blue Diamond thing that was floating just off the ground?
You did make the Rage thing look pretty easy.

You know those two spikey things at one end of the valley? Go around the
left side of the right one (that is, go between them and then jump up on
that rock area and try to get as far back and behind the right spikey thing
as you can. You have to have a pretty good lead on Rex when you go for it,
or he will be able to get at you anyway. If you're far enough ahead of him,
he'll stop in front of the spikey, and you can shoot the side of him all you
want.

Rexes is SO stupid.

Not sure if it's programmed that way, or it's just a glitch. I'd say
"glitch", except for the fact that a lot of past TR fights have had "smart"
solutions for people who just aren't shooters. Examples: (1) The
Half-a-Monster at the end of TR1: if Lara hangs off the platform, he turns
his back on her and walks away from her to the door; then she can pop up,
blast for awhile, then hang some more. (2) The Dragon at the end of TR2:
there's a pillar Croft can hide behind; by timing it right, she can bounce
out between his blasts, give him some shots, and pop back behind the pillar
again.

The Centaurs ALMOST have a "smart" solution. You can dive into the water
and swim down into the switch cave. Just stand there and wait. The blasts
finally kill one Centaur and then injure the other enough that he can't
throw fireballs any more. Then you can go back up and try to fight him,
without being hurt very badly. (He can still petrify her, or stomp her
during a Rage, but it's far easier.) Can't kill him though, without
mastering that "rage" thing. I still have to work on that.

How long does that take when you swim down to the Switch cave? I went
down there once and gave up after about 15 minutes. How do you know when
one of the Centaurs are down?
