problem- asteroids with wg v2000 monitor. i swapped MAIN boards and
it does the same thing below so the board is ok.
i recapped the deflection board and reflowed solder pins as well.

It's a weird display problem. Here are the situations where I see the
weird
behavior.

1. Everytime I start a game the right half of the R and all of the 1
of
'Player 1' disappears.
2. while playing the game, the ship disappears for a few
seconds, then reappears in the same spot where its at (no, its not
hyperspace). At the same time the right half of the line 'Atari
1979', at the
bottom of the scree will disappear for a few seconds.

3. if im towards the end of clearing the screen, when the ship
disappears a few small asteroids will
disappear. I believe that it's only the small asteroids. if a UFO
comes out on the screen, everything reappears.

NOTE: the screen never goes completely blank.
the score and ufo's never disappear.

NOTE: when items disappear, the spot killer comes on at that time.

someone posted this same issue in 2004 and never posted a response as
to how they fixed it.

Ok I'll give it a go.

The bad news is that there is no one answer to your problem and it's not
going to be easy to fix without some good tools.

With that said the problem is going to be one of the following. A bad cable
or connection. The 12 pin connector coming in to the monitor is a common
problem. I also check the sockets to the 4 transistors mounted on the
chassis. You could also try replacing the transistors but that would be one
of the last things I try. Also you can try hitting the side of the game
while it's acting up or wiggle the cables to see if that helps to isolate a
loose connection. Could also be a bad contrast pot, while you're at it look
at the brightness pot too. You may also want to check the 90vDC coming out
of the high voltage cage. Lastly it's your picture tube going bad, not much
you can test there with out the proper tools.

If it's any help you can send the chassis board and high voltage cage to me
and I can check them out for you if you don't have another one to try in
there place.
