I see more and more games that use hard drives being adapted to run on
compact flash cards. My question is I have a HDD duplicator can I just
have it read off a master HDD and copy it to a CF? Is there a program to
do this? Thanks.

I have converted hard drive games to CF and most run fine. The only
problem is that if the game writes to the hard drive it will corrupt
the CF as it only has 10,000 write cycles. Some times using a laptop
drive is a better option as it auto locks the head when power turn off
the game.

All you need is a CF -> IDE adapter and the computer will think the CF
card is a hard drive.

I tried this on my Blitz 2000/NBA, it didn't work, the
hardware looks for the interrupt that an actual
drive creates.

It does however work well on old Megatouches
and Lasertron PC based games.

Cool. I was going to use it for Megatouches. How many gigs are the later
Maxx games? I wonder if I could do a GT Live drive.

I don't think it will work on a hard drive based
system, they use custom firmware or some kind of
nasty trick to keep you from copying your own
drives (and saving money).

I've only done the CF mod on older CD-Rom based
games.

megatouch maxx drives are unprotected standard ide drives

Once they went to the force model, they went protected.

Im pretty sure after 2005 the Force drives are not copy protected. I
dont think IT's Nighthawk drives are either.

Gary is correct, except that it started with 2005.5. Anything 2005 or
earlier must be on a Merit drive. 2005.5 and newer can use off the
shelf drives.

I've experimented with this. I bought a CF to IDE adapter and wired
it all up. The game ran VERY slow off of the CF drive. The CF drive
I was using was supposed to be 120x. Also, for Force machines, you
need a hard drive larger than 8 gigs. Since pretty much all you'll
see in CF cards is 4 or 8 gigs, you are pretty much limited to using
an 8 gig drive.

I encourage yall to try it. There are a ton of cheap CF to IDE
converters on eBay. The CF drive I bought was just some cheapie, so
maybe that was the problem. I didn't experiment with it beyond
that.
