Hey all,

Just wondering which skill(s) you would use for swinging on a rope, from
one ship to another? Use Rope, Tumble, Jump? Also what DC would you assign?

Thanks.

I would use Tumble with a DC of 15, for the used rope seems not to be
in the middle of the two ships. If the rope is placed in the middle,
make it 10 or 13.
I also recommend looking in the DMG v.3.5 p.25 "Adjusting Actions Not
Covered", point 2, the section with "swinging on the chandelier".

I would be generous and allow anything reasonably applicable;
to me that would be Climb, Acrobatics, or Strength check -
the trick is holding on and aiming your swing. I would think
a Jump check and use the rope to reduce the DC would be
fair. Use Rope (handle ropes, tie secure knots) and Tumble
(roll around on the ground to avoid damage) would not apply.
Tumble would be ok to insert if the character on the rope is
trying to avoid damage while he swings, but not for the
successful completion of the swing. Use Rope would apply
if (s)he had to tie the rope prior to swinging; then it would
be a preliminary 'does the rope even hold you' check.

How far apart are the ships? Grappled together? If so, pretty
low. Probably a 10 if the rope would swing naturally in that
direction.

I'd say Tumble is the main "acrobatic maneuvre" skill, but maybe with a
synergy bonus for Use Rope (the usual is +2 for 5 or more ranks, I believe).
