I share my time between the Sims 2 and an online game that's not a MMORPG
(max 8 players per game).

I'm at home on maternity leave with two kids under 2. In trying to split my
time between the 2 games I don't end up with a whole lot of time for either.
I tend to play the Sims 2 during the week and the other one on the weekend.
I usually fire up the game some time during the day, but only get to play in
short snatches and never get very far. I probably get about an hour total
all day, which I figure mainly due to the fact that I tend to get through
about 2 sim days in 1 human day. Hence, I usually concentrate on one family
in any particular week, trying to keep everyone in the neighbourhood up to
about the same life stage. Sometimes I'll play a bit in the evening on
"boring TV nights" like Thursday or Friday or when I don't get suckered in
by my husband to go questing with him in the other game. All in all,
probably 6 to 8 hours a week goes to the Sims 2.

Like you, I'm a bit of a NG whore and post in Sims related newgroups, as
well as a NG for my other game and some child and family related ones.

I prefer NGs to forums on the whole, much easier to find if someone has
replied to your query, and more chatty. It's easier to go off topic and not
feel your shouldn't, in a place where people can ignore bits of threads.

But this game wouldn't be half as good without the help and mods and
content, and the people, online in both places.

I don't play a lot these days, Sims 1 had me
playing all evening, but now it's about 2-3 hours
once or twice a week,
I tend to play more when a new expack comes out,
to tell the truth if my game loaded faster and ran
better,
I would probably play more,
ah well when I get a new PC Very Happy

Mim does your computer get hot when you leave the
game on for so long, I find mine does when the
games been on for about half an hour, it's
probably something to do with the graphic
card,(and maybe fan) it's been like that since I
first got Sims 2. Sad

"Every Day?"??? I said 2 - 3 times a week for 6 - 8 hours. I would get bored
if I played every day. The 36-hour sessions were when I got new EPs and
played with the new stuff. I actually build more than play though.

Both places have their good points, but with newsgroups you don't have to
struggle with a slow web site, and for those of us on dial-up that's a big
plus!

I don't know how to answer that. Most of the time the game goes on when I
get up in the morning and loads while I let the chooks out. It goes off at
night when it's time to put them away and get started on tea. But it's not
like I play it all that time. If I'm working at home then it's minimised
while I type or research or whatever. If I go out it stays on, so I just
can't tell you how much time I play because sometimes it's only for minutes
at a time.

I know. I recall the days of dialup, originally I was thrilled if I
connected at over 19k with a 32kbps modem, get a 56 was a thrill, with an
ISP that delivered 48. My speed just now, acording to a Simple Speed
test - 3881 kbps. And I still find forums slow!

Mine is on a BIG desk so it's got *plenty* of room
all around it, I'll be getting a new PC in the
near future, this time I will make *sure* there's
a few fans in it. and if there's not, I'll ask for
some more to be fitted.

Hmmmm as you say I'm not mechanically minded, I
have a desktop, but I don't fancy that disk drive

is, thanks for replying.

When I had this new computer built last month, my biggest request was for a
tower with plenty of ventilation and lots of fans! My Dell was a very tight
box with only two little vents in the back and I had a lot of heat problems
with it. Haven't had a moment's worry with this one.

I'm also turning my computers off now when no one is using them, and that
helps on the heat build up as well.. We used to leave them on all the time,
but our utility company recently nearly doubled our rate for electricity and
we are looking to conserve in every way possible. When you get a $400
utility bill, it shakes you up a bit. <g> They say that with our current
rate for electricity, it costs roughly 7.5 cents an hour to have the
computer on. (That's just the computer, mind you, not the monitor or
peripherals). 7.5 cents an hour, 24 hours a day, 30 days a month, times the
four computers we have going in here (mine, hubby's, and one in each of our
kids' rooms upstairs) adds up pretty fast!

Sandra, I thought you got a new computer around the time Sims 2 came out?
Maybe it was that you upgraded but I sure thought you posted about a new
one.

It did until I moved it out of the dinky little crevasse in my desk and put
it on a table of its own to one side. It is never cold, of course, but now

I play maybe 3 hours a day but I don't play a straight 3 hours worth...I
play awhile, then go walk on the treadmill and take the dog out..and
then I play a bit and then read email and ng's...and then eat lunch and
do the ironing or whatever...it's intersperesed throughout the day...I
play the longest at night when Mr Sails is grading papers or watching tv...
