Archived from groups: alt>games>the-sims (more info?)

I was reading a thread at MATY yesterday and was rather startled when
someone posted that they played the game 15 hours a day. Blimey, I thought,
that's 2 working days, more or less, in every 24 hours.

Which got me to thinking - how many hours do you play?

I have been thinking about the time I spend on the game a bit recently since
I really need to get on with the writing up of my diss. and I need to
reorganise my time a bit. However, I do find the game is a good balance for
me from the pressures of my work (mostly teaching though with other stuff
too). I would say I play maybe 2-3 times a week for a maximum of 3 hours
each time (pushing it to 4 occasionally). I usually fire up the game in the
afternoon about 2-3pm and usually have to be getting ready for work by 5-6pm
or getting dinner ready or whatever. I don't usually play in an evening and
at all on the teaching days when I'm teaching during the day (Mondays,
Thursdays and sometimes tutorials on Fridays). I find I don't usually play
at the weekend either. Saturday is a family/household day (shopping,
cleaning, doing stuff with Him Indoors, making nice meals, also a bit of
teaching in the morning) and Sunday I just want to relax and usually just
read. However, I often find myself planning things in spare moments, like
on the way to work. I spend quite a bit of time late at night reading
newsgroups (I also post in forums on other topics as well as sims groups)
which I really enjoy and I often post here in the morning too as I'm doing
my emails. (I confess to being a Newsgroup Whore.) Sometimes it gives me
time to think of an answer to some request from real life or - more often
perhaps - a way to delay starting to do some real work. Sigh.

Anyway, I'm aware that others play more than me because they talk about
stuff I haven't experienced with the game - or haven't experienced more than
once - and sometimes it's clear they simply make more progress in their
stories than I do. I play very slowly.

So - how does it fit into your life? I'm guessing there aren't too many of
you who play anything like 15 hours a day (which I confess I thought was
extreme) but do you play daily or what?

15 hours a day? I think I'd be bored witless with the game.

Best wishes

I just started paying Sims 2, so right now it's 2-3 hrs a night every night.
LOL
My BF laughs when I creep into bed at 2am. (he gets up at 2:30 for work) LOL
He says he's a Sims widow.
Once I learn how to download stuff it's going to get worse!

I've played that long. Heck, I've played 36 hours straight a couple of
times! But that's rare. I don't work and there's just Hubby and me so I have
the time, but usually I play 2 or 3 times a week and for about 6 - 8 hours
each time. And no, I never get bored playing! LOL!

What, how do they find time to eat sleep and use the bathroom? Smile

Me too.

I am very irregular. When I do get stuck into playing time does evaporate.
I admit. 2 to 3 hours will disappear. I play mainly in the later part of
the evening, but not every night, and occasionally in the daytime if I need
a break from real life.Smile I do spend more time on the game in other ways.
Deleting and adding downloads, that sort of thing. And like you I am a
newsgroup whore. When I am at home during the day I pop in and out - got
used to taking regular rests after an op, and now the time between visits
has stretched, but I still do it.

So, how much time playing, some weeks, 3 hours at a time, 4 or 5 days ,
others maybe one day, with a bit of time also spent on the other stuff.

One marathon session every so often I can understand but Every Day? What on
earth did you do on the 36 hour bouts? And what about poor hubby?
Actually, I do play at the weekend if Him Indoors is away at a training
course or something.

Best wishes

I normally play an hour or so before bed... but sometime I play when I get home
from work, if I have a new expansion pack or something! Lately I've been
playing with Seasons and a new video card and new ideas and techniques...
getting Sim overload!

On weekends I play a few more hours than usual...

At work, sometimes I have to sit and wait for something to happen for a few
hours, so if I have my laptop, I play then. But only in Summer, Winter is too
cold for a laptop outside... So sometimes when I'm on overtime waiting for
other people to do their jobs so I can do mine, I play Sims for $40 an hour!

I try to get in at least two sim playing days each week. I manage most
Tuesdays (unless I've got errands I can't postpone like doctor's
appointments and such) and again on Wednesday. I'll get the game fired up
by noon and play uninterrupted till about 3 or so. I leave the game running
but paused for the most part for the next probably 3 hours while I entertain
grandkids coming here after school, and prepare supper for however many of
them are staying for the meal. Then my husband calls every night (he works
up north during the week) and I can't really talk to him and play at the
same time, even if I turn the sound off because it's just too distracting in
both directions. Once everything settles down to a dull roar, I'll try to
play for another 3 or 4 hours before shutting down and coming in here to
check the group before bed. On days when I'm not simming, I'm either
reading the forums, playing some mindless game at pogo.com or reading.

I never play on the weekend or if mu husbamd is home through the week. He's
always summoning me to run to the store with him or bring him a cup of
coffee or come see whatever it is he's doing. So, I mostly read on
weekends, often with my cell phone attached to my pocket and my purse
between my feet, ready at a moment's notice to be up and out the door. <g>

I do find that once I start playing time literally flies by. I usually
end up playing 4-6 hours, but no where near daily. Sometimes it's weeks
between the times that I play. It all depends on when the mood strikes
me. Since Seasons came out, the moods been hitting me more often. Razz

I do check the newsgroups daily. Compulsively. More than once...
Whenever I get bored, basically. Or when I need a break from homework.
Any excuse will do.

Probably 2-3 hours a day, 4-5 nights a week. Usually after I bring my dogs
in for the night.

I think you're right, Wes, I think she was at home all day and there was a
reason for that - all the same I think I'd be bored playing the same game
over and over. At least you vary it with other stuff.

At the moment I haven't got a lot of time to play. On Monday and Tuesday
I usually have lectures or workshops to go to. But I can usually squeeze
in half an hour or an hours play just after dinner.

Wednesday is my day off and depending on how much preparation I have to
do for teaching on Thursday and Friday I can play a couple of hours. On
Thursday I never play, after teaching and observing at my placement
school and often attending meetings after the lessons I too tired to do
anything useful. On Friday I hardly ever play.

On Saturday I work all day, I usually play an hour at night, it really
depends if there's anything worth on the television or if I have other
plans.

Sunday is my homework and lesson preparation day. Again it depends on
the amount of work I have to do how much I can play. Today I have a lot
of reading to do for tomorrow and a lessonplan to prepare for Thursday.

I don't think I ever spend more than 4 hour playing. I play about 2 max
on Sunday and Wednesday, although sometimes 2 sessions a day. 3 hours if
there is a new expansion pack. I really can't imagine playing 15 hours!

Try putting in another fan to help cool things down inside the case
(assuming you have a desktop, not a laptop). If you are not
mechanically inclined, you can get fans to insert in the disk drive
slot (you still have to connect a power cable to the fan, however).

If you have a laptop, try resting it on a surface that has good heat
conduction. Metal or marble works well (say, use a marble cutting
board).
