Post subject: Supreme Commander expansion - takes more proc power than original?
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>games>strategic (more info?)

Good morning,

I was playing a 6-player game last night, 2 on 2 on 2 on one of the new
10km maps (forget the name, kinda triangular layout with water
separating the teams) and noticed the games was REALLY dragging after a
while. The timer in the corner slowed down, and it was taking forever to
do anything. Once I started knocking AI out it sped up, but I hadn't
noticed that kind of slow-down when playing SC, pre-expansion. No
changes to my system between then and now, nothing like virus scan
running in the background, etc. Turning GFX down to low did nothing to
speed things up, so I have to guess it's a CPU load issue.

Anyone else noticed a greatly-increased processor load in their
multiplayer Forged Alliance games?

In Windows, you can use either System Monitor or Performance Monitor
if you have Windows XP to measure various system properties like CPU
usage and RAM usage.

Good luck and have fun.

You noticing any difference in CPU usage in your MP games between SC and FA?

I haven't played Forged Alliance multiplayer yet. I heard there
weren't very many online games going compared to Supreme Commander.

I would check to see if there is any spare CPU usage while playing
Forged Alliance. Whether there is less or more CPU usage than
Supreme Commander is IMO a lesser indicator.
