Is it common practice for developers to totally drop all support of
older game versions when new ones are released? Or, is it only unique
to Harpoon?

This fellow posed an interesting question that I am unclear of:
http://www.harplonkhq.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=390&sid=74d665f9ce2271...335a681

"(2) Why was it necessary to eradicate availability of an older
version of H3 v3.6.3 in order to market ANW?"

When TOAW3 and SH4 came onto the market, I can understand if there
were no future patches or support for the older TOAW/SH versions, but
did the links for the old patches, executable files, and utilities
simply drop out of existence the way they did when Harpoon ANW and
Harpoon Commander's Edition were published by Matrix?

Lots of companies do this.

Of course, these companies sometimes also manage to get the previous
versions actually working before they move on to releasing and
supporting the new stuff. The process of *never* getting a product
working before you release a new $50 version and discontinue supporting
the older one does appear limited to AGSI.
