Reading your post sure brought me memories. I too used to play the hell
out of SMB on the NES. I have all GBA Mario games now, NSMB sure does
go back to those throwback days of 2D gameplay. The best way to play it
though is beat the game once. When you beat the game, you'll be allowed
to save anywhere. You than can go back and start collecting all the
coins, open all the secrets, etc, and save your progress. The game is
much tougher without saving anywhere, and I was treading though the
game slowly picking up everything, until I hit a save spot. Imagine
that! Is much more time consuming. Still I enjoyed the game and felt I
took a trip down memory lane, and back into the early 90's. This one is
more a cross between Super Mario Brothers 3, which was just a
straight-forward platformer and lacked the complexities of SMB 2. Is a
much more friendly game to play, but alot of the hard-core elements of
SMB 2 were lacking in this one. My only big knock against NSMB was the
bosses. They lack challenge, or lacked any sense of depth in style or
variation. But for about three weeks I was totally in mushroom heaven,
and the game sure made me forget everything around me. A good sign of a
great game.
