Suggustions for leveling Priest quickly?

Ok. First, I'm not a "maths" type of player so from a numbers
perspective some of this may seem like odd advice.

I would start running instances with groups. You'll gain xp (even in a
group it adds up), get some really decent gear, make money, and be able
to buy the gear you need but can't find. With that awesome gear and new
levels, you'll end up being able to thrive in Stranglethorn which is
the next decent place to really level through your 30's and early 40's.
And if you've been instancing you'll probably meet others that will be
willing to group up to run quests. Its all good, and there is
relatively little downside to this approach.

My shadow priest stalled out at around level 27 too and was painful to
level until about level 33. I almost scrapped the character because I
found solo leveling so absolutely brutal. Finally I decided to make a
drastic change. I switched to holy spec right after 1.10 and started
running SM with teams. Besides getting a boatload of new gear, I also
picked up a few more levels. What's cool is that the leveling is much
faster now (because of my decent gear)and I seem to be able to
comfortably solo in Stranglethorn (because of my higher level).

I can't whole-heartedly recommend switching to holy because your
preference will be different than mine. In terms of soloing PVE, I've
found holy to be as difficult as shadow with some differences. While I
take mobs down a little less quickly as a holy priest, I feel I have a
little bit better survivability should things get out of control. I use
Holy Fire, Mindblast, Weaken, SW:P and then finish off with staff (or
wand). I end up with 80-85% full mana after each kill so my downtime
between kills is minimal. I can still only take a couple of MOBS and
only if they are my level. And I still have problems taking down any
solo MOB more than two levels higher than mine (without completely
wiping out my mana reserve). I also am very susceptible to getting
ganked by other players if my mana is low.

Good advice. Instances and priests are intimately tied. Besides, apart
from warriors (maybe) and druids (of course), you're of the only
classes without any issues finding a group, so you'd better make the
most out of it.

One thing to keep in mind though, as you level you might feel it's more
and more difficult to do the prerequisite quests to the instance
quests. Other classes generally never go to instances unless they have
done them already, so you end up being very late quest-wise.

My priest completed Blackwing's Lair and was very well into Ahn Qiraj
40 before finishing the first hydraxian waterlords quest (kill a few
water elementals or something in the plaguelands). She also completed
her level 50 sunken temple class quest on the same run we summoned
Malfurion Stormrage to get a quest in the "open the gates of AQ" chain
(about 7 months after dinging 60).
Yeah, levelling doing instances can be *that much* time intensive. But
they are fun in my opinion (when they start on time, that is)

Well, this is good 4 lowlevel but...
My prist (47 shadow/disc) has chosen a talent (Shadow vulnerability)
that procs with shadow spells, but augment also shadow wand dmg so:
If u use a wand u make X dps
If u use MF and AFTER your wand (only if it has shadow dmg) u make X
(+15%) dps
Understood? so not always highest dps is better... @ 47 i use:
Holy fire (DoT)
SWP (DoT + 3%Shadow)
MindBlast ( +6%Shadow)
MFX3 (+ 15%Shadow)
Wand
W/ this method i create a +15%Shadow dmg on my SWP (approx 100 dps)

Mind flay does a lot more than wands. i think you need to check your maths.

Pull the mob with mind blast and immediately start running away, cast sw:p
while running.
Turn around quick, and mind flay them as they close.
When they get to you , cast psycic scream (lowest level, you only need to
fear 1).
As they are running around feared, get off as many mind flays as you can.
By the time they get back in melee they sould be just about dead.

Some talents you should have...
Improved sw:p
shadow reach
The one that doubles your spirit after a kill (forget its name).

Get gear with lots of spirit. You should have very litle downtime.

My current MindFlay is 75 over 3 seconds or 25 DPS. My wand is slightly
higer. Your point below could make a difference though. More Shadow gear
could tilt in favor of MindFlay

You're probably right, talents make alot of difference and grinding at lower
levels is different to higher levels. Eventually you will see Mind Flay
doing more damage than Wanding, and useful for taking their health down
before they can even get near you.

Why are you casting a instant cast DOT first? This will just get them
running towards you, why not get something with a casting time in first to
do more damage, also the global cooldown would of passed making putting a
DOT on easy. Some people Smite, or now you could use Holy Fire, in Shadow
Form I just use Mind Blast, SW:P, walk backwards waiting for global
cooldown, mob will then come in range for Mind Flay at about the same time,
with Shadow Reach you can just about get 2 of these in before they are
hitting on you, they are probably close to 50% health now. First thing I
did was Shield so now I just wand them away. Or you can not bother with
Shield, use Psychic Scream rank 1 and keep Mind Flaying them, if you have
the space, uses a bit more mana per kill or at least less regen.

With Shielding + Wanding you should be regening your mana before you've even
killed the mob, then you get the full effect of spirit tap. End with Mind
Flay as your last spell as its only 2 seconds before you start regening mana
after its cast. SW:P should carry on until the mob is dead with 2 points in
it. Only bad point with this method is you still take the durability from
hits even when shielded, so your repairs would be more than a mage but less
than any melee class. You sometimes don't need to use the highest rank of
shield so you can factor that in.

Another way some people use is putting on Vampiric Embrace and not use a
shield. I just cant see when to put it on really, you could MB, SWP, VE but
then you lose a MF and would be healing you when you don't need it, unless
health is down from last battle. With them hitting on you you can't use MF
so can only use MB, which screws up regen really.

Fair enough, but youre just the level below where you get level 2 mindflay,
which is just over 40 dps.
As you level up mindflay will tend to increase faster than your wands dps,
so you will need to start basing a strategy around mindflay.
Mindflay is also very mana efficient.

Take up engineering. Make dynamite. And holy hand grenades.
Throw them at thine enemies.

"KABOOOOM!" Take that you sinners...

If you're goblin spec you also have a 1/2 hour cooldown on
your bomb dispenser trinket. Between that and a "big one"
you can lead off a fight with about 600 damage against a
group, then the mobs are stunned for 5 secs giving you time
to drop in some SW:Ps and maybe a target dummy. And if
the fight goes on long enough the cooldown on dynamite
and bombs is 60 seconds.

My priest is 56 now - basically a level a day for the
past 2 weeks. I've heard people say that they don't get
enough out of engineering, but my belief is that it's mainly
because they're trying to do it on the cheap by just using
the mats they can mine, which in the case of a 27th level
priest would mean that you're just starting to get into
heavy stone from iron veins, whereas if you'd been working
the AH to find budget stacks you could have been using
heavy dynamite since lvl 20. Along that line of thinking,
if you mine tin and you have been grinding coarse stone
into coarse powder stop that right away. One coarse powder
purchased from an engineering vendor is 48 copper pieces.
One coarse stone sold in the AH is 20 silver - much more
valuable to sell to blacksmiths than use yourself.
