And of late there have been some good, very good in opinion megaWADs.
The recent ones I rate are:
Congestion 1024
- This is 32 minuture levels. Different authors. The rules are the
player cannot wander outside a 1024x1024 area. But the level designer is
free to have outside decorative areas, or monsters firing within or
shootable switches outside the area.
The idea is to see how create a level designer can be.
I really enjoyed this. MAP02 looked great (but the play could be a little
better), MAP03.
MAP27 Tower of Hades was my favourite. MAP28 & MAP29 looked visibly
stunning.
You will need PrBoom or ZDoom to play I think.
I dont quite rate it 10 out 10 as on some levels it is not possible to get
100% kills, 100% secrets.
10 Sectors
- Another competition. Different authors. The rules are design the best
level uysing no more than 10 sectors. You will need PrBoom or ZDoom to play
I think.
There are some very good levels on this but I found it patchy.
MAP08 is infamous in facing 3 Cyberdemons to kill by teleporting (and
absolutely absolutely impossible). MAP24 is hard. This is very is variable
in degrees of difficulty.
But many many enjoyable levels. I like the early ones.
MAP30 is astonishingly quite easy on this WAD.
Community Chest 1
Community Chest 2
Community Chest 3
I am familar with the first two WADs but not the 3rd. More recent.
Community Chest 1, MAP24 has to be seen to be believed.
Community Chest 1, MAP15 is irritating as you have to be able to do diagonal
running to make the secret exit.
MAP30 on Community Chest 1 is doable and satisfying
MAP30 on Community Chest 2 is super tough. Murder.
You face 3 demon shooters simultaneously at the end. Level is called "In
threes"
