Tyler Welsh
MVP Lead Microsoft Games
Microsoft Corp.
Dear Tyler;
As much as I have appreciated the honor bestowed on me by Microsoft as
that relates to receiving the MVP award for Microsoft Games in 2007, I
find that I can no longer support the program in a manner appropriate
with what is both desired and/or required by Microsoft to maintain the
level of involvement sought by the company for it's MVP recipients.
I realize the tenure of the award is present tense and represents my
past participation in the program rather than my present participation,
but looking forward toward 2008, I can envision no way based on my
involvement during my MVP year of 2007 that Microsoft could seriously
consider my further involvement in the MVP program.
I thank Microsoft for their consideration, and I thank you, Hal Bryan,
and the Aces team. It has indeed been an interesting experience.
I will of course continue to aid the community on the forums in any way
my time and experience in aviation matters permit, but as of now, please
consider my official participation in the MVP program at an end.
Thank you very much,
Dudley Henriques

The letter below is simply being posted here and at several other
locations to help explain what will become a less involved schedule for
me in the simulator community.

Wow...
If you're up to it, I'm sure we'd all like to hear the back story behind
this.
If it's private, then that's fine too.

Great award, Dudley! I'm sure few people have been in the unique position
on providing valuable input directly to Microsoft in regard to flight sim.
That being said, I'll bet it is DEMANDING!
Very cool.

Although it is a singular honor and a badge of achievement of sorts -you are
still THE Dudley Henriques, you will probably STILL help others in the sim
community and so, in the final analysis - we don need no steenkin badges!!

Actually had someone on Usenet tell me once that I wasn't Dudley
Henriques because HE knew Henriques and I wasn't him.
My wife promptly answered his post by asking him to please send the real
Dudley Henriques home at once, because the one she had been living with
for 40 years was a real pain in the ass who didn't like to do yard work.

Welll... Thanks for all the hard work Dudley. We all appreciate it!
If MVP even approaches what's required to stay current in their
certification program it is both expensive and pretty much like a full

Thanks.
I'm not leaving the community. I'll still be active on the Usenet groups
and I'm remaining active with Simflight.

The MVP program is a cost-cutting tool, in which users outside Microsoft are
persuaded to provide a substantial amount of technical support with no
compensation other than various forms of trivial recognition or other trinkets
(most importantly, they are not paid a salary and they are not employees).
The certification program, on the other hand, is a profit center, designed to
generate revenue for Microsoft from users who believe that credentials are
everything.
So, one program helps Microsoft by getting people to work for nothing, and the
other helps Microsoft by getting people to drop ever-increasing amounts of
money for a few sheets of paper. >> Stay informed about: A Status Change for me with Microsoft |
