Are their rpgs worth the price? I realize they are old school
with dated graphics but graphics are not that important to me.
Any insight is appreciated. Please post replies to this group.

Why don't you try them yourself - you can play 20-25% of most of the
games before you have to register / buy them. I like them, but then I'm
biassed since I beta tested about the last 6 or 8.

There are two distinct sorts - the Avernum/Nethergate ones, and the
slightly more modern (autorouting and everything!) Genforge ones.
Nethergate and Geneforge all have good replay value, since there are
multiple endings (less so for the Avernum games).

Like the other poster says... try them out! Personally I really like
them and consider them well worth the price. You can play a big chunk
of the game for free and the quality does not drop after the free
portion.

The Geneforges are smaller than the Avernums, if that's a concern.
Personally I prefer smaller games... the GF games are small enough to
actually finish! But if you want hundreds of hours of playing time, the
Avernum series might be more your scene.

Spiderweb games are generally well-balanced tactically, an important
part of the old-school CRPG that so often is left out.

If you like the Geneforge theme, I'd recommend starting with GF1 - it's
really good, one of those games that sort of knit together thematically,
and will leave you with a memory or three.

I loved the Avernum series and am awaiting the Windows version of
Avernum 5. Was less of a fan of the Geneforge series. So... another
opinion.

Long games, good setup, well-balanced and able to be completed without
being a Superman or cheating and they require some thought like the
old CRPGs

But do try the demos. They are long enough for you to either develop
a "must have" or a "major dislike for"

Snow.

I like to play one game in each series. To me, there is way too much
repetition in characters and storyline
in Spiderweb's games. If you've played Geneforge 1, then you've played
80% of Geneforge 2-4 also. Same
with Avernum. If you can read Wheel of Time or the Sword of Truth
series without puking, then you should
be able to play through all the games in both series. Some people
don't mind endless repetition. I found
Avernum 2 to be the best of that series.
