Been reading a book titled "Defeat into Victory" by a gent named Slim
and in it he describes his experiences in Burma and India during the
war and now I'm curious to know if anyone has tried to make a game
that models that arena or if it's even worth it. Both sides seem to
have treated the whole thing as more of an after thought but there
might be some interesting material to work with or to try.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Steve

Campaign for Malaya was nice too - and still looks good after all
these years.

Not in the pc realm, but The Gamers made a very highly regarded OCS
boardgame of that theatre, "Burma".

Never tried it myself though, as the topic didn't interest me.

it was a good enough game.
i had good malaya board game too. battalions , step reduction, and a special
insert map for the final assualt on sigapore, plus a nice air ans sea bit
too.
its buried deep in a closet.
i always was interested in that theater. a good read is col tsugi's
"singapoer, japan's greatest victory, england'sd greatest defeat"
tsugi can be allowed his opinion as he planned the campaign. if you can find
it read it.

War in the Pacific covers this area - along with most of the rest of the
Pacific. Ground combat isn't the most realistic, but it isn't that bad. I
particularly like the supply and base system which really makes you think
about how you are going to get supplies to your front line.

At a tactical level there is the old Campaign game Rising Sun and there are
even some scenarios in Steel Panthers.

Also, freely availeble, there is WitP's precursor, "Pacific War"- which is a
good introduction to the latter title (one can check if monster wargames of
this caliber are suited to him before committing the money) and of course
covers this theatre too:

"Rising Sun" along with the other Campaign Series Titles, has recently been
re-realased by Matrix, too (but not for free Surprised) )

"A gent named Slim"? I hope this was typical British understatement, but
this was called the Forgotten Army, so in case some people are unaware
of one of Britain's greatest generals:
