Hi!
I sometimes have a very distorted sound in UTgoty. WinXP pro SP2+all
Updates.
Card: Soundblaster Live! Player 1024 PCI

First I thought it was due to overheating this hot summer, but then I
installed an extra Cooler, nothing happened.

Sometimes I have to restart the whole pc - then (sometimes) its ok.
Sometimes I only have to exit UT, play music with winamp etc. and restart
UT, this also only works sometimes.
Other games and apps work all fine, except UT99. Even UT2k3 and 2K4 work
excellent with proper audio.

Any help?

THX in advance from Hanover/Germany

I used to get that sometimes with an SBLive and using Creative's EAX
enhancements. I *think* the problem stopped when I upgraded to an
Audigy.

It could perhaphs be some sort of driver conflict, but it may also be
that you can fix it by tweaking UT.

Try playing with the Latency setting i UnrealTournament.ini*

Latency=60

is the setting that works in my system.

Kind regards

Bruno

*You find the INI file in SYSTEM subfolder of your UT installation.

I'm not really sure what you are asking. The INI-file I was refering to
is to be found i a folder called SYSTEM and that folder is a subfolder
to the folder that holds your UT installation. It is so on XP, as I use
also, and on every other platform you can run UT on.

Please try and elaborate if I have gotten your question wrong.

Kind regards

Bruno

Yes. EAX has been supported since UT99.

I can't find the page on Creative's site, but Gamespot has a page up
here:

and the download can be found here:

I had nearly the same phenomenon back 1 yr ago. Sound was
distorted in UT99 only, not very often though.
I realize by reading your post, that it disappeared sometime!
I have still my Soundblaster Live card (XP pro with all sp),
but changed my Radeon 7200 based graphics adapter with a Radeon
9250 based one. I installed new drivers and reinstalled directx
after this change.

THX,
I tried DXdiag, but no results. All other Games/Apps work fine, just UTgoty
sometimes distortes the sound.
When you had the same prob, what did you change? Could it be an Interrupt
Problem? Ore do i have to set my Soundcard into another PCI-Slot?
But that cant be it, cause all other Games work fine.
Graphicscardchange cant be it? If U use the same slot.
By the way, I have an Elitegroup ECS K7S5A Mobo.

U got me right.

I tried different soundconfigs in Windoze, but nothing helped.

Inbetween (in the mean Time), I believe I got a corrupt Soundcard, but
Duffguy tells, he had the same prob.
Oh damn, this really drives me nuts now, cause i have to restart my pc and
sometimes when i wanna join the server - the server is now full.

The sound problem appeared very rarely so I didnt really
search a fix. Sounded like a bad tuned channel on tv.
But Dxdiag didnt reveal any problems too.
I reinstalled the latest directx because I _changed_ my
graphics adapter. So this could be the reason, UT99 runs
fine now.

Looooooong time ago, some friend had trouble with his
Matrox and playing sound. I remember we solved that by
changing Matrox device driver not to use an IRQ. So
maybe...

I remember back someone posted a sentence like:
"IRQ sharing with Sound Blaster cards is not for the
weak of mind (or heart), ..." Smile)

Hi,
No, I did not, cause I didnt know what to change.
Heres a part of my .ini:

[Audio.GenericAudioSubsystem]
UseFilter=True
UseSurround=False
UseStereo=True
UseCDMusic=False
UseDigitalMusic=False
UseSpatial=False
UseReverb=False
Use3dHardware=False
LowSoundQuality=False
ReverseStereo=False
Latency=40
OutputRate=22050Hz
Channels=16
MusicVolume=160
SoundVolume=200
AmbientFactor=0.7

Can u get anything wrong there or what causes my problem?
I dont see anything, even when i turn on UseSurround - nothing changes.

Seems to me like i have to live with that:-(

Thanks for your help, ill post it here if i got a solution for the prob.

happy fragging and greetz from hanover/germany
