Well, it's not like Sony's been perfect. No need to recount their
blunders here...
IMO, Sony has basically been pissing on the gamer media about the PS3 for the
past, what, 2 years now? Endless pontification with no real information of
data - just talking points like "Save your lunch money" and "realtime weapon
switching!" Horrible showings at things like E3 didn't help any either.
Then there's things like the endless stream of promises that have been
revised again and again, only to have Sony STILL miss their target or
promise!
It's hard to take Sony seriously when so many of their previous statements
and promises have been broken, or are so outrageously insane, you have to
wonder about the mental health of the executives.
The mainstream media, meanwhile, just bought Sony's hype that the PS3
would be the best thing since the invention of the fried Mars bar. But
when got the reality, they realized it was nothing but smoke and mirrors.
I'm sure many journalists are kicking themselves for falling for Sony's
hype, but unlike most of us, they're actually in a position to DO
something about it.
As a result, every little negative thing is magnified. You certainly
don't hear about the mainstream press slamming Microsoft for (continued)
problems with their hardware conking out on people even after many
aggravated calls to tech-support and replacement shipments.
