Hi there

I am trying to find infos on how to build a realy good smiter for upper
trist now here are some questions.

dose smite damage depend on the shield?
what other skills are usefull eg. charge?
how do u realy kill fast with a smiter some how my smiter takes real long to
kill hell baal not to mension upper duriel or so.

what do i need items?
what smite damage sould u have?

Yes. Elite Paladin shields all do the same average damage, try to get
one of these with as much built in resistances as possible, and then
maybe socket it with 4 perfect diamonds if this character is built
purely for UT (resistances for dealing with Uber Mephisto are
mandatory).

I have about 14 hard points in Zeal which is useful for regular player
vs monster and to finish off the summoned minions in UT. If you do it
alone you will most likely need at least 1 hard point in Salvation to
counter Uber Mephisto's conviction aura. Some people prefer to just
stack resistances and wear a Treachery armour, go get hit in Act1 so
that the Fade triggers (increases resists), then put normal armour back
on before UT.

It's all in the Crushing Blow. Get equipment such as Guillame's Face,
Goblin Toe boots, Gore Rider boots, Duress runeword armour, Black
runeword flail, Heaven's Light (socket 2 x Shael) mace, etc. The closer
you can get to 95% CB the better. Remember that Smite doesn't leech
life like normal attacks, so you need to get the curse Life Tap on your
target somehow because that will allow you to steal life back. Most
people have a wand with Life Tap charges on switch to cast initially,
but then wear Dracul's Grasp gloves which will trigger Life Tap often
enough once you start Smiting or Zealing.

Most important, Crushing Blow items. Then you need Life Tap so you can
steal life back. You'll die otherwise. Then resists for Uber Mephisto.
Many +life charms. Also important is attack speed. The more hits, the
more life you take off them, and leech back to yourself. A 2 x Shael
Heaven's Light will get you to the last Smite attack speed breakpoint.
There are many more options, but that's what I use and it works quite
well.

The damage is important only for the last bit of life on the bosses.
Otherwise CB is the big damager. I use a Sacred Targe with 44% all
resists built in. This increases to 44% + 4 x 19% = 120% resists from
my shield. The damage with Fanatacism aura on is about 1.3k average I
think? I can't quite remember. Hope that helps.
