Archived from groups: alt>games>mame (more info?)

I posted this on the SlikStik forum, but there doesn't seem to be much
activity over there so I thought somebody here might have some ideas.

I received my custom controller and hooked it up, installed the CD. The PC
recognizes the controller and I can go into the ipac setup program but some
buttons and joysticks are not recognized (they appear to not be hooked up to
the ipac). If I could get each control to register in the ipac software
maybe I could reprogram the controller.

The CD says to read the manual for help, but my custom unit did not come
with a manual and it was not programmed from the factory.

Any ideas?

The realy good stuff was made by Rickweed working long hours in Uncle
Christian's garage. These days everything is made in China, and poor 'ol
Rickweed is selling balloons, sitting on the porch swing watching them
fly...

My bad, I should have been more concise in my request.

Any ideas relevant to solving my problem?

I haven't received my Classic yet (should be soon, I talked to Chris by
phone a couple of days ago), so take this with a grain of salt.

I think the reason some of the controls don't show values is that they are
either connected as mouse buttons or connected to the same input as a second
control on the board. For example, I think that the four-way joystick on
the Classic is connected to the up-down-left-right inputs of the Player 1
eight-way joystick so that remapping that control also affects the four-way.
Also, I think that the trackball and spinner are actually configured as
mice, so that they don't show up as ipac controls. The buttons near them
may also be configured as mice buttons so that they aren't connected to the
ipac either.

As I say, I haven't received my controller yet, but I downloaded WinIPAC and
the slikstik controller files and I believe that is why some of the controls
and buttons aren't mappable.

I did find that some buttons were mouse click buttons, and some are other
"non-character" keys. And the trackball and spinner work OK. But I can't
figure out how to make it work in MAME yet. A pre-programmed disc or
instructions would have been great.
