Hi gang
Yesterday I downloaded a Beechcraft Bonanza from flightsim.com. It's for
FSX. In Vertual cockpit mode, I am sitting in the back seat, not the
cockpit. Makes it very hard(ok,impossible) to see the instrument panel. What
do I need to do to get the view from the pilot's seat?
This is the second aircraft that this has happened to me.

Relax and enjoy the ride.

:- )

For the VC cockpit:

Open the Aircraft.cfg of the aircraft you want to modify in a text editor.
Edit/add the following line in the aircraft.cfg

EYEPOINT=

Example:
[Views]
eyepoint=-3.95, -0.85, 2.1

The three values following the eyepoint are positions from a reference
datum (the center of gravity of the plane), being (in order) longitudinal,
lateral, vertical distance in feet.

Example:
-3.95 is 3.95 feet back
-0.85 is 0.85 feet left
2.1 is 2.1 meters up

I wonder if the aircraft designer used a plus value instead of a minus?

But, mess with the first value (-3.95 example) and keep reloading the
aircraft. You don't need to restart the sim, just reload the aircraft.

Oki, after numerous tries of trial and error, I got the viewpoint to an
acceptable level. The old eyepoint was:
-4.51,-.884,1.4
The new eyepoint is:
+1.52,-.884,2.4
Having said that and gotten the eyepoint just right, I found out the VC is
totally unfunctional. Nothing works, not even the airspeed indicator. So I
will end up deleting this "turd".
Thanks for your help, Dallas, I did learn something which is why I sim in
the first place!

i saw the same and my assumption was - fsx developers were allowed to sit
back there when they did screenshots and photos. Smile

In some aircraft the rear set is the prefered single occupant location
for weight distribution purposes. The seat for the optional second
occupant is near the center of lift so that the pilot won't have to deal
with the shift of the aircraft's center of gravity along with the
unavoidable weight increase of having the passenger aboard. IF the front
seat is near the center of the wing(s) flying from that seat with the
rear seat empty would probably make it necessary to constantly pull the
stick back to stay out of a dive and make conventional gear aircraft tip
over forwards (damaging the prop and engine) when on the ground.

Yeah, BUT the rear seat is not the preferred seat of the PILOT! <g>

Ah yes... another victim of "freeware".

I've gotten to the point that I just won't do freeware anymore. Why
people put unfinished work out there for download is beyond me.
