This may be a silly question but I was wondering if and how I can remove
content from my sims buy mode. There is a lot of stuff that came with
the game that I simply find ugly and never use. I was wondering if its
possible and what is the best way to do this. For a start I am not even
sure where they are kept. I have the d/loaded stuff that I have
collected in the downloads file but where is the objects folder that
came with the game? Will this in anyway affect the game?
Thanks
Diana

I'm pretty sure there is a way to hide some of the stuff in the catalogues,
especially the Maxis clothes but unless you are good at dealing with the
games files, I really wouldn't advise it - for objects at least - since I
think it involves altering base game files.

There are some clothes hiders available at MTS2 - or maybe at InSim since I
think some were made by Jordi. The trouble with hiding all the Maxis
clothes is that, although you no longer see them in the catalogues, the game
will still use them as the sims age up so you don't get rid of them from the
game entirely. If you use the partial hiders - that only hide certain
clothes - I have one for the stupid hats and Christmas outfits for
instance - the game will only use the remaining stuff from the catalogue.
If I want to see the stupid hats (which I never do), all you have to do is
either temporarily remove the hider file (which lives in Downloads) or put
the game into Debug Mode in CAS. There is also a method to make all your
custom clothes appear as 'Maxis' so that the sims will use them when they
age up. I think the instructions for that are at MATY - I've never bothered
myself but it is doable but again, unless you are used to manipulating
package files with SimPE, I wouldn't advise it.

I had a quick look for some hiders. There are several in Jordi's Chop Shop
section of the Inteen site:
http://box156.bluehost.com/~aestudi1/forums/inteenimater/viewforum.php?f=15
If you can't see that forum, it's because you need to be registered and
logged in at that site.

And here at MTS2 - you'll see there's a hider to hide all clothing by Jordi
there:
http://skuld.modthesims2.com/download.php?tag=clothes+hide&f=38
but read what he says in the notes for that mod about it back-firing.

I'm not getting any result for object hiding.
Best wishes

Thanks Maxon,
I'll go have a look but I am not that confident if it means manipulating
the files. I was hoping it was as easy as removing them or sticking them
in a folder where the game cant read them. I noticed when I d/loaded a
careers package that it d/loaded two files for each....ie bartender and
elderbartender...etc.
Think i will just leave things as they are...pity as I just do not use
the base stuff very often anymore......not even the houses as they are
not very practical most of them and besides I like to build my own.....
Thanks again

The houses look pretty but playing them is difficult.

As for the maxis content, I went on a shopping expedition for recolours, and
found a lot of "maxis matches" which make the orignals look a lot better -
I never could understand why nothing matched! It might not realy be what
you want, but it might help, if you are stuck with them, to have better
colours?
