Hi,
People collect the weirdest things and one thing I've noticed is how
a "personally signed by the maker/creator" has an impact. So
here's weird idea #317 : what if you could buy a wargame (box)
personally signed by the developers - would you go for the boxed
version instead of the digital download one ? - would you pay an
extra $10 for it compared to the "normal" boxed edition ? What if
there were only 10 of these and the developers auctioned them on eBay ?
etc.

Interesting idea Eddy.
I don't see so much myself in signed versions of a game, but the idea
of more added value in game packages would be nice.
Say a digital download would cost $ 20, a boxed copy $ 30, a boxed copy
+ hard copy manual would cost $ 40 and finally a boxed game + manual +
reference book on that particular campaign would be $
50..................
For some games I would prefer to spend an extra $ 10 for a real manual
with the game, instead of a PDF file on the CD. And for some a nice
book on that campaign..........
Idea for Amazon maybe?

I had Charlie Kibler autograph my old ASLRB slip cover. He was in town
visiting his brother and so we met up and I had him over for a few
hours (we play Combat Mission together a lot - I had not met him in
person before). I figured I was just being geeky, but he was like a
childhood hero of mine (thinking of how "cool" it would be to work for
Avalon Hill back when I was in jr. high). I didn't realize that this
was actually a fad. >> Stay informed about: Signed Editions |

I've written a few different replies to this question and then thought
more about it before I sent them, which is a nice change. But the
answer is no.
It's like most of the stuff you buy, you have to think ahead and say, if
I take it home, where will it be next week? Usually the answer is, who
cares.
Very much Off Topic, I wish there was a wargame where my home state
could battle the rest of Australia. At least I could relate to that.
Or Eastern Australia could battle the Western half of Australia.
How about a wargame along standard lines (whatever they are) which comes
complete with many scenarios, all made up only of battles like England V
Scotland, Germany V France (not historical), Iraq V Iran, North Island
NZ V South Island NZ, NZ V Australia, North Pole V South Pole.

Wargame Construction Set from Shrapnel ?
And I'm reasonably sure there was a TOAW scenario along these lines.

You need to get ahold of and read "Kelly Country" by A. Bertram
Chandler, which would form the basis of a GREAT campaign.
The basic postulate is that the Great Ned was successful with the
Jerilderie letter in raising the countryside against the oppressive
colonial overlords and in the course of a general uprising declared
and enforced independence.
Excellent chance for a Victorian "small wars" campaign with the option
in the novel, of some of the more revolutionary characters from the
failed CSA campaign of '61-65 and the '48 campaigns in Europe to
assist in the political and economic establishment of a revolutionary
independent country on the wide brown continent.

Suggest that NZ had accepted the invitation to accept Federation in
'01 and that the Australasian Empire had become sufficiently strong by
the 30s that the Imperial Japanese campaign against the USA didn't
expand to include the Southern Empire. Without Oz to provide a
logistical base for US forces what would the outcome of the
US-Japanese War have been?

Pshaw!
We often indulge in flights of fancy and there are designers and
developers who read the group as well, it could be fertile soil!!

I would love this with option to upgrade your purchase, first I play demo,
then I buy digital download and if I'm still playing a game after a month I
want to have one of those big old style boxes proudly displayed on my
bookshelf so I pay another $10-20 for boxed game with fat manual to be
shipped to my address. >> Stay informed about: Signed Editions |

What I'm really suggesting is that the wargame people might determine
who their market is and provide at least one scenario (often, by
necessity, not related to past events) that they can enjoy. I see every
now and again someone write "this is in my backyard". There are lots of
us (luckily) who can never say that. If 500 customers appear to be from
LA and 500 appear to be from San Diego, give 'em something to bash each
other with.
Maybe they might determine where they'd like their customers to be and
put in a scenario about that, and let the word get around. Greg >> Stay informed about: Signed Editions |
