Shorthand is a press format that allows players to communicate alliance
and move proposals, but enforces a strict syntax on press that
neutralizes some of the disadvantages of not being a native speaker of
the lingua franca of the game. It's a great format for those who speak
English as a foreign language or who prefer the tactical elements of the
game over the social and roleplaying elements.

You can rely on there being at least one shorthand game recruiting
going forward. I have a strong interest in promoting the format, which
I see as important to developing both AI and international play.
I'm also interested in developing a Klingon version of shorthand
which will use Klingon verbs in the roman alphabet, but only contain a
subset of the shorthand commands. Specifically, players will only be
able to propose alliances indirectly by suggesting attacks against a
third party.
