I am not on "Google-Groups", per-se, but on the usenet. I am just
leaning about what Google has to do with groups. Until a week ago, I
didn't know you could newsgroups on Google and today I learned that
people can post from Google.
My reader collects the messages from as many groups as I have interest
in reading from, over 50,000 at this time. It is very convenient to
me because of the reader I chose to use. It may not be as contentment
to you or others so I don't insist that you 'do it my way or not at
all.'
As for admin anything on the internet, no thank you, I administer my
own web hosting and email and that is enough, thank you.
I realize that The Stare is taking on a task that requires work,
diligence and discipline. I praise him for his efforts and
willingness to do that. I don't wish him ill-will in any way. When I
reread my initial reply, I believe it looked like a snotty remark, but
it wasn't meant to be.
For me, I have gotten tired of signing up and signing in and sorting
through all the differences between each of the forums for each of my
interests. I already have over 20 forums bookmarked that I seldom go
back to. I have lots of interests and each one has lots of sources of
information. I am subscribed to over 100 yahoo groups alone, plus
many other email list servers. I receive over 300 emails a day to
scan through and probably a couple thousand new usenet messages.
Granted, I don't read everyone of them. I have to be able to quickly
find threads of interest and kill the ones of no interest. This is
most easily handled in the usenet with the use of Agent.
To each his own, but I find this group most convenient and would love
to see all the messages here. As for files, the FAQ and other
pertinent and updated information, the website is a great place for
that. Several pages with related links and other information is
great.
For me, Websites are great and I visit them periodically. Web-Forums
are too scattered and inconvenient so my experience with them is
negative, not because of one, but it isn't my style. Usenet brings
all the forums together in one easy to use application and every group
is as consistent as every other one so I only have to know how to get
around in my own computer.
I have the Stare's website in my Games/Civ favorites and will check it
out often. I will even look at some of the forum threads, but I won't
likely make it a place of habitat.
