With FSX, I am getting severe stuttering during Instant Replay, particularly
as I approach airports, with the stuttering rate increasing the closer I get
to the airport. I've never known it as bad as this but seems to have got
worse lately.
I disable my AVAST anti-virus software before starting FSX, and I can't see
that there's anything else running in the background that should affect the
sim. I've done a thorough virus and spyware check on my PC with a clean
outcome from the scans.
I don't experience any stuttering when I'm flying in realtime, but only
during playback. It's very noticeable at Honolulu International.
My sliders are close to maximum, except for autogen which is set to minimum
(very sparse I think it's called).
My local 'C' drive is only 50% full and I have 2Gb of RAM.
Graphics card is an nVidia 8800, and Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz.
Windows XP Home SP1/2/3
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Moke G.

Have you tried FSRecorder as it works pretty well. You can record all
the parameters of your entire flight including flaps animations etc
and play the flight back. You can also play it back as AI traffic and
fly alongside your previously saved aircraft

I have Vista 32bit OS and 3Gigs of Ram. I have the same hesitations with
replay in FS10. I, too, have stopped AVG, Spybot, etc. It is just something
I tolerate. I don't use replay too often but it is jumpy when I do use it.

Thanks Ibby - so are you saying that fs-recorder doesn't show any stuttering
on playbacks then, or are you just recommending that I try it and find out
that way?

I have just tried out my instant replay, something I have never ever tried
in ten years or so of simming! Quite an interesting thing to do. I have a
very similar setup to yours Moke, but there was no stuttering. I have a
Geoforce 7900 GS video card. This is no help to you I know, but it might
indicate something?

Hi Pieter,
Just checked - my PC is set to 1680x1050x32, and my simulator is set to
1680x1050x16.
Is that really the reason? It'll be great if the answer is as simple as
that!
I've changed the sim 1680x1050x32. I'll give that a go and see if it's made
a difference. I'll be very surprised if it does though.
Cheers,
Moke G.

Tried the sim replay again after changing the resolution to that of the PC,
but still there was stuttering on the replay. It only seems to be really bad
as soon as I get within close proximity of the airport.
Ibby's suggestion of using FS Recorder seems to work very well and very
little, if any, stuttering was experienced using that and also it has the
added attraction of incorporating the AI aircraft which of course the
ordinary replay doesn't do.
Thankyou everybody for your assistance.

Thanks Ibby - works very well and no stuttering experienced. There is a
slight jerk about once every 3 seconds or so when I start the recording, but
I suppose I'll just have to put up with that!

Just bear in mind that the AI you see on replay are not the AI recorded
during your original flight but the AI which would be there at the time of
your replay. I turned that option off as I often saw my replayed aircraft
land and go through an AI aircraft on the runway. Spoils the effect!

It's a better alternative to FSX Replay option. Like you say you will
have to try it.

I have a very fast system with an E6850 currently overclocked to
3950mhz and DDR2 667 memory running at 1040mhz and I still get SOME
stuttering on FSX Replay. I think its a poorly modeled facility
