Archived from groups: alt>games>quake2 (more info?)

Hi guys,

Just started running a quake 2 server, and ping times aren't that great, on
the local network they are 15, which isn't bad, but should be much less
being on the same LAN, i was hoping for under 50 for remote people and they
are getting upwards of 200, so i was wondering it you have any tips on
increasing performance?

My server is running on a laptop, but has 1gb ram and is a Pentium M 1.8ghz,
surely more than enough to run a dedicated server. I've got the server set
to 10 players and my upstream broadband is 512mbps, soon to be 1024mbps so i
don't think i have a problem with bandwidth.

Also is there a good front end to use rather than having to remember all the
console commands?

Thanks in advance
Andre

My server has pings of <1 second between machines.
My server is a Pentium 3 500Mhz with 384Mb of SDRAM

I hope you meant 512kbps instead of Megabytes per Second, I'd kill for that
bandwidth.

I don't use a front end, just a batch file I wrote to keep the server going
if it totally crashes.
I can look up the settings to get a little better performance, but I wont be
home most of today.

Cheers,
L2D
