Yes, there is a standard computer real-time-clock battery inside
your TiVo. It is possible the battery is good but the battery
holder is not.
Very early Series 1 units had a problem were there was too much
flux on the circuit board for the battery to make contact.
Every time my Sony SVR-2000 lost power, the date would become
really screwy, like 7 years in the future. (You have to navigate
to the System Information screen to see what year it thinks it is.)
The fix: Remove the cover and locate the battery. Untwist two
of the pieces of metal holding the circuit board to the chassis,
just enough to get the battery to slide out of its holder.
Use a screwdriver to scrape off the insulating gunk that was
preventing the bottom of the battery from making a good
electrical contact with the pads there. Reassemble. No more
silly clock problems.
