FS9

Geforce 8800GTS

On setting up a flight I drag 'n drop the aircraft panel, GPS and radio
shack onto my secondary monitor..no problem. I then save the flight, do
my flying and then close the flight.

When I access this flight again the aircraft panel, GPS and radio shack
are always displayed on my primary monitor, however, to get them back
onto the secondary, when I click on "Undock" they jump back onto the
secondary into their 'correct' locations.

Question: Is this normal behaviour, or is there a way to ensure that the
panels appear on the secondary when I re-start that flight?

Fly it until the last piece stops moving.

This is the procedure I follow and it works every time. It's a bit od a
fiddle but bear with me:

- In windowed mode, set up your 2d panels on your second monitor

- Once you have everything as you like it, Hit Alt-enter or use the menu
to get into fullscreen mode. Wait for the screens to re-draw, then
switch back to windowed mode. This is the key for some strange reason.

- NOW save the flight in windowed mode.

At this point you can either fly in fullscreen or windowed mode, it does
not matter. When you exit the sim it will remember which mode it was in
(through the Maximized=0 or 1 setting in fsx.cfg under [main] ) and when
you load the flight it will place the 2d panel(s) in their proper places
whether you're in fullscreen or windowed mode.

Hey, I will have to try that when I get back home. I fly full screen, and
have never been able to get it where my panels come back up on my secondary
monitor as they were when I left. Sounds like the above procedure might
work. That would sure be nice.

Hmm? Every time I switch back to windowed mode the 2d panels all revert
to the primary screen. Strange! Must be something not working properly
on my machine. I have tried numerous times, with different (default)
aircraft.

Thanks anyway Frank. It just means a little extra work every time I
start a flight......I can live with that. Smile

BTW, you mention fsx.cfg above, I did say I was using FS9, perhaps
that's the reason it doesn't work for me?

Hi MikeW,

There was a little program called Panel Layout Saver that took care of
this.

I used to have it, but not any more, or I would send it to you.

Perhaps you can still find it, or someone else may be able to send it to
you...

Thanks John. While searching for it I came across one of your posts on
another forum where you said it might be on Avsim. I have just searched
there but no luck. If anyone knows which site it is on I would
appreciate the info.

Hi MikeW,

Via Google, I've found that the program's name was FS2004 Panel Layout
Saver, the latest version was v1.3, and it was by a bloke named by David
Gray.

Unfortunately, I can't find a file name, and I'm not sure he actually
released it to any of the download sites.

I remember that Quilly also got a copy of it, so he may still have his
copy somewhere...

Mine was lost due to a hard drive crash a while ago, so this is as much
as I can help you, mate.

Hi MikeW,

I don't know how you'd get hold of version 1.3, mate, since there's no
Readme file or email contact for David Gray in version 1.0, which Quilly
has. I also lost my emails from him in my hard drive crash.

Its a pretty long shot, but maybe somebody here got v1.3 from David ..

Still, version 1 is better than none! Smile)
