Saving PS1 Games to PS1 Mem Card via PS2 System

Hello,

I have a PS2 (slimline) and in memory card slot 1, I have a PS2 memory
card. In mem. slot 2, I have a PS1 mem. card. When playing FF7
(original for PS1), I can load saved games off the PS1 memory card -
but I cannot successfully SAVE games to the PS1 memory card.

I get no error message. I only know the save was unsuccessful when I
go back to load the game - only the original data (that which was
over-written), or an empty slot exists where I saved.

I know you cannot save PS1 games to PS2 cards - but I was always under
the impression that PS1 games would save to PS1 cards even via a PS2
system. The PS1 card was originally formatted on my PS1, perhaps this
is the problem?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

99% of the PS1 games I play will only save/load correctly if the PS1 memory
card is in slot 1. I would try moving it there and see if that solves the
problem.
