Hello NG
I do have to reboot our pc, so I have to save my daughters Sims2-saves on a
cd. But I can't find them. Does anyone know where to look?
Thanks
Peter

You'll find what you are looking for in
C:\Documents and Settings\her identityY\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2.
The saved games will be the Neighbourhoods folder, but she might also have
Downloads, and also additons to some of the other folders. If you copy
everything you can be sure it's all saved.

No need to copy everything because you will copy a lot of unwanted stuff
too. Here's my standard list for the files in My Documents:

My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 - you can alter or delete any files in
these folders without harming the game though deleting neighbourhoods
obviously will delete your saved games.

Cameras - The only changes you are likely to make in here would be because
you modified the game to change the camera behaviour.
Collections - If you made or downloaded custom collections to help you find
your objects/walls and floors quickly, they will be in here
Config - the only file in here you are likely to alter is the
userstartup.cheat - you would know what that file is for if you had made one
Downloads - where MOST of your custom content is
HTTP Cache - ignore
Logs - ignore
Lot Catalog - this is where lots in the lots bin are stored
Movies - save if you made any in game movies
Music - if you added music to the game, it will be in here
Neighbourhoods - the location of your neighbourhood information, most
pictures and your saved games (i.e. the families and lots)
Packaged Lots - if you packaged any lots to file, they will be in here
Projects - this is the location of your working files if you make your own
custom skins
Saved Sims - You may well want to save this folder - it will contain any
sims you made in Bodyshop and any skins you made in Bodyshop
SC4 Terrains - You will only have unique files in here if you have
downloaded custom neighbourhood terrains or made your own in Sim City 4
Storytelling - this contains pictures, usually ones which have been taken on
community lots or while building. It also contains some pictures that are
used in the Maxis hoods. However, you don't need to worry about those since
the game will recreate them when you reload.
Teleport - ignore (should be empty)
Thumbnails - Please don't bother copying this - it's a folder that you
really should delete from time to time and let the game create a fresh one.

Maybe I've misunderstood what you're saying but I reboot my PC all the time
and don't have to put the saves on a CD. As long as I save the game before I
exit, I can reboot all day long. Like I said, maybe I misunderstood what
your 'reboot' means??

Good point that - I thought he meant reformat.

I assumed he meant he needed to reformat it.

Well, you and notmaxon may be right. I've just never heard it expressed that
way. Most people I know say reformat. To me, reboot means turn off and back
on. LOL

Me too, I just thought that if he needed to save the saves, IYSWIM, it had
to be more than that.

I'm sorry. I did mean reformat. I just didn't know that word. English isn't
my primary language.
But thank you all.
