My nephew has Oblivion installed on his machine. He also has a game on
my computer. Can I rename the saves to make all of them fit and will
it work?

If you save using the console (type "~" to open the console, then type
save "name_of_file"
where you quotes are included around the name of the file you want then
you can each name your save files so you can keep them separate and
identifiable. I think if he just moves one of these named files over,
he can play from that.

That is what I wanted, but my nephew just replaced the files instead.
His game was not as far along as mine and he just used my game to
finish at his house.

Save 161 - Terry - Paradise, Level 19, Playing Time 100.02.54.ess

I didn't do a good job asking the question. It would seem to me all
you would have to do is rename all the save "161" parts to make them
unique. I never tried it, though.

Most of the time I try to help with computer instructions on the phone
I am just as likely end up with the program broke.

"saved games" or "savedgames" files to obilivion cAN BE FOUND on the
internet. This is not cheating, but it can make the game easier. This is the
way you wanna do it I believe, instead of copying your friends files.

You can rename save files. Oblivion doesn't care what they're called.
Just rename his most recent save file (from his machine) and copy it to
your machine.

I find the default save feature to be usless. The names are horrible
and it leaves far too many files laying around with no indication of
what they contain. I use the console to save. Since I've had trouble
with mods corrupting games in the past I use the following:

~
save 060601Tandaina

That's the save from the 1st of June 2006 for my character Tandaina.
Neat, orderly, and gives me daily saves to revert to if something gets
corrupted. I use the console and F5 for "about to do something stupid"
moments.
