I discovered recently that it's easy to get into the San Fierro airport's
pilot's-only entrance without a license or even climbing over the security
booth: just walk up to the gate and then walk along it (right up against the
gate) 'til you hear the gate rattle, then just move away from it and it'll
start to open and you can just drive right in. Doesn't work in Los
Venturas, haven't been back to Los Santos in a while and so haven't tested.
Just curious if anyone else's noticed this one - I've checked 4 or 5
walkthroughs with glitches sections and couldn't find it mentioned...
[PlayStation 2 Greatest Hits edition, so your milage'll probably vary]

This was mentioned somewhere before.....what happens is that when you
walk really close to the gate, part of CJ is rendered on the other side
of the gate ... and whenever you approach the gate from the other side
(as in exiting the airport), it doesn't check the license.

Nope. No pilot's license - not even a single increase to the flying
skill. Never went into Los Santos' airport, actually, and still haven't
even though I'm now at the flying school (damned parachute course! You'd
think landing in the big, red, glowing circle safely would be enough, but
noooo...
Climbed into SF's airport several times, though, after finding out about
the heat-seeker RPG there and noticed the glitch on one of those trips - I
didn't find the unlocked Maverick way down there in the SE corner thanks to
the lack of draw distance on the PS2 'til well after I started going through
the gate without climbing. Found it on one of those runs - was about to
climb over one trip and the cops killed a crook who dropped 7 or 8 cashes,
so I jumped down off the roof, brushed the gate as I was turning to go get
the cash and it opened as I moved away. Came back later and tried it when
there were no cops around, just in case, and it worked again (without having
to climb).
[once I found the Maverick, I started flying places - but even after more
than an hour's worth of flying various places, most recently to the
abandoned airfield in the sea sparrow from behind the shipment pickup point
in "Interdiction", I never got any increase in flying skill 'til it started
going up with the flying school]
As for being there during a no-stars mission, I never discovered the
no-stars 'til the "Outrider" SF mission - well after finding this way into
the SF airport...
To recap: without a pilot's license or any amount of flying skill at all,
brushing the gate (specifically, the right-side of the double gate; for some
reason I never tried the left) to the SF airport until it rattled and then
moving away causes it to open for me so I can get in without climbing. [PS2,
'Greatest Hits' version]

IIRC, having a pilot's skill of Ace will get you a pilot's licence and
all three airports open (This is regardless of whether you've unlocked
the countryside yet).
Anothr odd thing I noticed is that the garage in Doherty allows you to
access and store vehicles without you owning ehe property. Pretty cool
IMHO, it saves a lot of leg work acquiring a vehicle.
I've only got 4 NRG-500s in there )

Does anybody know a specific time of the game when that Police Maverick
starts to spawn in San Fierro?
Btw, am I the only person to notice that flying a plane increases your
flying skill much, much more than a chopper?

Am I the only one who gets into LS airport by barrelling down the nearby
tunnel and jumping off the edge, to land on top of the hangar nearest the
Maverick? Takes longer, but waaay more satisfying. >> Stay informed about: San Fierro Airport Gates Glitch |

IIRC, there's a unique stunt jump that lets you jump into SF
airport. It's a bit down the road from the tunnel, you even get the
cool cinematic camera if you re-do the jump.
My favourite tricky stunt is using the Packer that's parked up west of
the military fuels dump. Grab a PCJ/NRG/FCR, use the Packer to jump
into the perimeter by jumping over the cargo containers.
You can do this in a mission too, it saves you the hassle of finding a
military vehicle to get in.
Cheers,
Rob

Funnily enough, I'm a bit of an old git when it comes to "Real Life" (TM)
driving, so I've never had the urge to run a red light or use the pavement
(sidewalk) instead of the road. However, a week or so ago, there was an
empty car transporter, in "packer" configuration, parked near our house with
quite a long, clear run up to it. The idea of jamming my foot down and
jumping over the car showroom did cross my mind, briefly. >> Stay informed about: San Fierro Airport Gates Glitch |

Nah, all you really need is to go very fast.
I can only ever do this on an FCR or NRG, a PJC doesn't seem to go fast
enough at full whack.
If you do land correctly you'll end up just to the right of the
Maverick, so it's handy if you haven't unlocked that part of SA yet.
Cheers,
Rob
