Have any of you heared about this new Sam and Max game? This time it's not
Lucas Arts that's making it, but some company called Telltale games. Also
it's not just one big game, but cut up in chapters. I don't know if they
bought the game Lucas Arts was working on a couple of years ago before they
scrapped it and finished it or something new.

Telltale is a company with some guy who used to make adventure games
for Lucas Arts, I seem to remember.
They had stuff to do with Grim F. and MI4 I think.

So that would mean they bought or took over development from Lucas Arts.
That may give some small hope of other ressurections like Full Throttle 2
that was once started and possibly a new Monkey Island???

I'm pretty sure they started over.

Then they were pretty fast. The Lucas Arts was like 3 years in the making
before they scrapped it. This was less than two years, I think. Allthough it
is in chapters, not a complete game. You can buy a new part every so often.

Since the succes of WOW and other MMORPG's it seems that gamers are prepared
to pay a monthly fee to play a game. Selling chapters would be a viable
businessmodel for adventure games.

Still I can't see myself buying chapters. But then again, I don't play
online either.

I wonder if today's youth is into adventure games at all. Or do they
consider it for the really young kids because of Freddy Fish and similar
games.

Didn't I post this on aglami.net? Back when LucasBastards said they had
better ideas than doing more adventure games?

Did you post it'd be released on October 17th?

Besides anything outside alt.games.lucas-arts.monkey-island isn't real.
Merely virtual.

It is a completely new game (or series of games), though some of the
team that started on the LA one have since moved to Telltale to work on
this.

They're not "chapters" as such, more of "episodes". Meaning that each
will be a self-contained story (like an episode of a TV series), rather
than parts of one large story. Telltale used this same format for the
Bone series of games, and it seems to work quite well.

I seem to remember reading that they will be releasing all of the
episodes together once they're done, so if you don't want to buy the
single episodes you can buy the whole thing at the end.

It's also 3D, which may turn a few people off, but in the Bone series
they proved that they are able to combine point-and-click and 3D into a
nicely usable interface.

Those are the hardcore S&M guys.

Yet I'm quite sure not a lot of people heard of Bone. Is that because of
marketing, a small company or other reasons?

Well, if it ends up on a CD or DVD in the stores, it might find a bigger
audience.

Certainly the people with fond memories of point 'n' click games that found
les joy in later 3D versions would be turned off. But I think there's no way
'round 3D graphics. Indeed the interface can be a problem. But that should
be solvable. Problems like walking behind a bar and not being able to walk
back again would turn players off. Aswell as slow moving characters that
seem to take forever to get to the next scene.
