After reading all the SES quagmire, wandered over and spent some time at SZO
Forums.
And by doing so, I have lost respect for some of my favorite
designers/developers....
Why is it that developers/designers feel the need to make complete asses of
themselves in public? I mean, it's not like this is a "huge" hobby, it is a
niche interest in PC gaming, and it only seems to me that the Jim Rose's and
their ilk are alienating a customer base not that huge to begin with.
Maddox runs the place like a fanboy on crack, I doubt Koger's sanity for
even being in business with someone like Rose, and one of their biggest
fanboys on the SES forum is a Croatian "Nazi".......
Yep, looks like I'll be passing over on DG and any future SES release. Why
in the hell would I want to put my money in the pockets of people like Jim
Rose?
Shame really, The R-J War is a subject I am really interested in (I even
wargame the R-J war in miniature, both in 15mm Land, and 1/2400 Naval), so a
game covering the subject would have been a no-brainer for me to purchase.
However thanks to the complete idiocy displayed by SES, even I will be
looking elsewhere.....

Actually, Mario is ok - weird, but ok 
He just gets over-excited at times and starts typing before thinking it

Buahaha, you bonehead. I am not a nazi, in fact read some books nazi is a
word from NationalSocialistic. As I hate nationalist - I cannot be a nazi.

Huh you are moron... Because Forum allows that we put any picture we want,
as I prefer to play Germans in wargames, I have put some German general - is

Croatian history last 60+ years is nothing compared with USA history in
modern times...Even on Kosovo, NATO is not there to bring "human rights" to
Albanians, but to dig some substance with which you can measuer how old is

Just popped over for a quick look. It was quite illuminating,
particularly the accusations of bullying, communism (yet Giftzwerg and
Eddy are probably two of the staunchest defenders of capitalism in this
newsgroup - go figure), stupidity, thievery, piracy, levelled at the
dissenters; I seem to recall that one was referred to as having the
"educational background of a slug". Hmmmmm ...a slug with a far more
advanced grasp of logic than most Rose/Koger fans it would seem.
There's a principle I apply that has yet to fail me when assessing both
sides of an argument: watch out for the side that uses the most strident
language and tone, resorts to smear tactics, guilt by association,
innuendo and miscellaneous ad hominem attacks. That side is usually the
one with something to hide. Why would you want to go to such lengths to
obfuscate the issue otherwise?
Of course such tactics are going to impress gibbering fanboys, but
they'd be impressed by anything. People with a little capacity for
critical thinking, however, can usually spot the difference.
To quote Mr Rose "The answer seems simple to me..."

I hate it when people *force* me into actually supporting
Bloodstar (guy I usually consider more than a little strange).
Firstly though you have to learn more about Croats (you don't
have to, as we're just a small very boring nation, but you have if you
wish to come up as being smart on the Usenet).
Start with the notion that "South Slav" dream, as you say, is
actually a Croatian "invention" - as is the ethnic cleansing of Serbs
during WW2. So what does it tell us? Not all Croats are the same (in
fact we're notoriously divided when it comes to politics for such a
small nation).
Now, carry on, don't let me sidetrack you, remember it all
started as SES-bashing thread ;o)

Now I will confess my ignorance an inquire about the term "Balkanian"?
Do you wish to see all the Balkans united under one nation? Or is it just
some strange take on the idea of Yugoslavia?
Never heard the term before, so I thought I would ask....
As for Glenny's book, it is an excellent read, the best history of the
Balkans I have read (and I have read a few), an easy read, and Glenny does
not come across as elitist or bias, he has a humble way about his writing,
and when talking about controversial points, he usually gives a counter-view
shared by other Balkan historians.
Due in large part to his writing, I am now totally immersed in further study
of the First & Second Balkan wars.
