I downloaded the demo version of SWG and loaded it up, i wanted to get
into the system and see if my old house was still there from 3 months
ago. I'd setup 6 months worth of credits in each of the 2 houses i had.
On starting the game you arrive at a space station and have to run a
few quests very similar now to WoW, as of now (after 2 hours of play)
i've been unable to land on any planet and only been able move between
a space station. I have 10 days to play, it's just amusing to see how
they have changed it since last November without actually paying them
any money ! i'll carry on and see how far i can get in the 10 days i
get free and IF i acutally get down to Tatooine to see my house and if
anyone's there !

Oh and i did not select Jedi...i went Bounty Hunter....probably the
only one whose not a Jedi !

Thanks for the write up. Please let us know about your house. Before my
brother and I left the game (post NGE) we left over 1 years rent in each of
our buildings and I would be interested to see if they are still there....

Well, do you want the good news or the bad news about the demo.....

Good news.....ummm, well after playing WoW for a bit i got used to how
the game play was and the "demo" is actually quite reasonable to play
and little quests (client crash) are quite good. They've used the Geo
cave as a small intro to run quests and missions on and they give you a
small space quest too so you get (client crash) used to the whole SWG
scene. If someone had no premis of what is was like before then i could
see them getting into it, as for veteran's like me (client crash) i'm
afraid they've lost me for good for which i am sorry.

Bad news...well i couldn't get to any of the planets it seems that the
demo version is only based across (client crash) 2 space stations and a
predetermined story/quest line to get you used to the SWG
experience. After logging (client crash) on for the 2nd time last night
it resets your toon back to lvl 1 but you get to keep all your armour
and guns etc. so you have to do al the quests again, not sure if this
is just me (client crash) or whether that's what it's meant to do.

Oh did i mention the client crashes ?....

Summary, the quests and game play wasn't actually that bad, shame i
could get down to the planets in any way, would i sign up again
?......no i don't think i would.

ummm..

first off they turned maitenance off on structures around the time of
the big hurricane... so now no structure other than harvesters require
maintenance(including cities).
as for houses, i have a city that still has standing structures from
people that haven't played for well over a year(pre-cu). The houses
still stand.

Now and for a while, when you run out of maintenance it tries to pull
from your bank account, and when that hits zero, the house is
condemened "by the empire until all back taxes are paid up". The house
stays, you just can't enter it.

The Demo (NPE for New Player Experience) is only designed to get people up
to Level 10. It shouldn't have reset you to level 1 though. It is very
easy, if you do all of the quests, or almost all of the quests up there.
That Station/Space zone by the way are also the Tutorial Region for any new
characters made by an existing account that chooses to go through the
tutorial. I think a paid account has to go through it once, and then the
acct is set to allow you to skip it if you'd like.

All the client crashes may be an artifact of the demo, I've been through the
Tutorial with probably 4 characters between TC & Lowca and never crashed in
there. (Yes, I know the Stations very well by now).

Back to the getting to the planet. I believe after you reach level 10 or
your time is up you're given the option to register for a full account and
land in Mos Eisley. The default way to get to Mos Eisley in the Tutorial by
the way is to talk to Han and tell him you're ready to leave the station.
Maybe that's just not a dialogue option you have in the Tutorial. You may
want to try talking to Han though and see.

Finally, as someone else pointed out, Housing maintenance has been turned
off since the 1st or 2nd week of September "for Hurricane Relief" and
they've not turned it back on yet. They also seem to have changed their
mind on removing housing for accounts that are cancelled. (Drat!) because
they fear it wouldn't be fair to those who have cancelled. [I guess they're
still clinging to the hope that everyone will come back when they get the
game 'fixed'.]

Since they have house pack up now there is no reason to not remove the
old housing. The only houses where there would be an issue would be
those with vendors in them and the vendors would be empty after thirty
days anyway. They could change the code to allow empty vendors to be
packed up and the landscape would be empty which I think scares them
more than having all the abandoned houses.

While I may not have mentioned it directly, I agree fully. So does most of
the old Politicians Forum. I haven't been there in months though since I
abdicated on my old City that had no one else living in it...not long after
the NGE made almost everyone a Master Politician. I was actually far more
offended by that than the sudden explosion of Jedi since we knew the Jedi
Explosion was coming...
