It's a hard fight that if you bounce into the room and plunge straight in.
I used to stand all my companions in the anteroom (the first room you enter)
and tell them to stay there and then open the door, step just inside and
shoot at someone nearby with my bow (I always played rangers in the NWN
official campaigns - don't ask). Usually this would attract the attention
of about half the people in the room and they'd come after me. I hopped
back through the door, called my companions to me and we dealt with the bad
guys one at a time as they tried to get through the door. Keeping them in
the bottleneck like that reduced the amount we got hit and allowed us to
concentrate our firepower on one of them at a time. The only real spanner
in the works was the mage-sorceress or whatever she is but she's fairly easy
to kill so I'd often plug away at her with my bow first. Also, the usual
buffings helped survivability. Then rinse and repeat for the other half -
keeping control of your henchmen/companions and concentrating my resources
seemed to be the key for me.
