I have a ATi X1950 crossfire in my PC. I have an older ATI 850 capable of
crossfire. What would happen if I linked the pair up? I am aware that both
cards should be the same however I wonder what would happen.
Would it
a) Degrade the system
b) Have no effect at all
c) Drag the better ATi down to the level of the older one
d) Destroy my PC
e) Cause MX to jump in with some techinical BS advice.

Ostensibly, it will downrate the faster card. AFAIK, though, the x8xx
series has a different connection method than they used for the later
Crossfire iterations, so they may not be compatible to boot.

FS won't care anyway, because Microsoft has continued its fine tradition
of not responding to new technologies by ensuring that the whole
she-bang is CPU-limited, not GPU-limited. It could actually reduce your
framerates, from all the additional watchdogging and crosstalk that the
two cards do across the PCI bus (sucks off some CPU cycles to handle it).

PS: Always put money on E) anyway. Wink

I didnt realise they had changed the connection method.... typical! I
reckon you are right though in the downgrading.

Even someone, like me, who knows FA about computers can answer that one.
It's just a question of how long it takes him to jump in with his BS
advice Smile
