Hi,

Now that the memory of the joke that is ToW is fading a bit I dared to
have another look at what's up over there

GraviTeam, the guys of Steel Fury, seem to be working on a tactical
level WWII wargame set in Kharkov 1943 - Panzer Command : watch out Smile

They reference Combat Mission and Close Combat as inspiration so I
thought it fit to mention this new development in here

Their forum is up here (Russian) :

Don't dismiss TOW just yet... there is talk about a massive patch (1.2
gig!!) just after the new year.

All in all, I got my money's worth of TOW, just not the way I had
expected (I got to play the tutorial and 10 min of first scenario
before giving up, that's all so far).

But the forum is .. _entertaining_ in lack of a better word. Just
take a look at this thread:

Topic: Battlefront: please info on the new patch

- and you'll see Madmatt in the frying pan. And being a paying
customer, I feel I has the right to laugh out loud.

And maybe - in the end - we'll get a playable game after all?

Lets give a little respect to Mario.

perhaps TOW was just ahead of its time in design and that kinda of game (we
all want) just can't be done yet. It's certainly a cool game to look at but
wasted because it unplayable.

Reminds me of that Micropose game...forget the name.(something 44) The one
on the west front sorta combining 3D models and table top strategy. Great
idea just couldn't get implemented.

I dont think any patch will help it. The idea of the game design is
excellent. The implementation is not..which is probably more a fault of it
cant be done yet.

In close grafix are awesome if you want to sit there and see things die.

The biggest flaw is no generated campaign. The only reasons people win the
scenarios is because they have to play them several times first so they know
where the enemy units are.

Ok, I'll admit to a couple of things.

1) I too find it a great looking wargame. There's nothing wrong with
the visuals or the historical details. It's the gameplay which sucks :
step over an invisible line and another wave of attackers appear.
While that's fine for a FPS, I hate that kind of stuff in a wargame.

2) I saw it in the bargain bin over the weekend and hesitated just a
little too long - indicating I haven't given up on it entirely, let's
see what this patch brings.

Greetz,

right. problem is..and I think I even read it for the designers is it cant
be changed. its just part of the game. Again I'm not blaming them..I think
this type of game is just over anyones head at this point in technology.
The whole AI is based on waves. Even if eliminated its unplayable unless
you're happy with watching one unit while the rest die. Whats the answer?
dunno when you're trying to do a detailed 3D game that requires attention to
each unit.

CC had it from a 3D top down view.
